Undocumented immigrant Carlos Ortiz Becerra was arrested in the early morning of February 9th as ICE authorities raided his home in Pasadena, Univision Noticias reports.

Becerra’s daughter, Stephanie Ortiz, claims ICE authorities were in search for a man named “Rodrigo,” who was deemed as threat to society. ICE accused Becerra of being “Rodrigo,” although he repeatedly informed them that he was not, and was taken into custody.

Activist Lizbeth Mateo is demanding Becerra be liberated after he was arrested “based on lies” and has a clean criminal record. In the contrary, Virginia Kice, the Western Regional Communications Director at ICE, claims Becerra was previously deported in 1999 and returned to the U.S. illegally.

Undocumented immigrants have the right to refuse to open the doors to ICE authorities, unless they are shown a warrant, but Becerra was not given this benefit as ICE authorities announced themselves as police officers, said Becerra’s daughter.

Despite Becerra being in the midst of obtaining his residency, he is still considered to be an undocumented immigrant and is in danger of being deported.
