The Department of Motor Vehicles in the state of Vermont provided information of undocumented citizens applying for a driver’s license to immigration according to an investigation by American Civil Liberties Association (ACLU).

In 2015, the Vermont human rights commission found that the DMV played a key role in Immigration Customs and Enforcement detainment and deportation a Jordan national who applied for a driver’s license and whose information was then turned into immigration.

The department claimed that it was having trouble in keeping with federal policies and regulations as it applied to its undocumented customers. However, according to ACLU documents the practice of sharing information with immigration has continued.

This has caused fears and anxieties to increase among the thirteen states, including California, that provides drivers licenses to its undocumented citizens.
Vermont Gov. Phil Scott said he would “rectify the situation.
