The issue of unaccompanied Central American children migration became a hot topic amongst mainstream media outlets during its peak in 2014. Although the coverage seems to have faded now, Latino Rebels published a piece, April 17, addressing what many failed to so back then; the root causes of Central American children migration.

The study provided historical context and an in-depth analysis of some of the factors that often push children to migrate to the U.S.

A culture of violence leftover from wars, political instability, organized crime, poverty, extortion, violation of human rights and lack of access to education were some factors mentioned. Additionally, an evaluation concluded that migration is less likely to happen amongst kids that receive educational opportunities in their hometowns, even while living in harsh situations.
