You can call me snowflake

Norway has produced some amazing songs for Eurovision over the years and this year is no exception. The winner of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix is a little lady named Agnete. She belted out a killer tune that seems to be a combination of two different songs. Have a listen and watch her performance below. I’ll explain once you scroll down.

Overall Rating: 4/5 Frozen popsicles

What does it sound like? This is where it gets interesting. The verses sound like Loreen — My Heart Is Refusing Me and then the chorus changes to a modern pop dubstep thingy. They don’t match and it’s slightly annoying.

When you hear a build up in a verse you expect it to continue and go ballistic in the chorus, but still maintain that linear path that the verses took you through. This zigs and zags from a build up to something within a different genre.

Stand out moment: Watching that backup dancer trying to break out of the box. I think I’ll write up a post ranking the best backup dancers who danced their way in or out of a box.

I’ve listen to the song a few times now and that transition from verse to chorus is still weird for me.

Fun fact: Agnete won the 2016 Melodi Grand Prix with a 195,728 votes. The act who came second was a tropical pop banger which received a close 88,128 votes. SHE FRIGGIN ANNIHILATED THE COMPETITION WITH AN ICE PICK!

How will it go in Eurovision? She should do well, perhaps within the top ten?

What do you think of Agnete — Icebreaker? Does she freeze your Eurovision loving heart? Do the verses and chorus need to match?Leave a comment and subscribe for more Eurovision updates.
