Businesses and non-profits have this urge to grow. Year over year they’d like to show off their increase in funders, profits, employees, etc. It seems to be embedded in us. Our lust for more likes, followers, email subscribers is insatiable. What if it didn’t have to be this way?

Which would you choose?

  • Option A: You’re constantly hustling to find customers to buy your product, every year.
  • Option B: You have a capped list of clients that buy from you once a year and you receive a healthy profit but do not grow past that.

Most of us would choose Option B. There are plenty of businesses who operate this way. From painters to doctors, a client list can be limited and keep you in business for decades.

Instead of trying to grow for the sake of growth and striving to get “everyone” to purchase your good or service, why not focus on crafting your private client list? It’s far more personal and rewarding pursuit.

Focus on your client list, not your followers.
