A person close to me fell ill the other day. I went to send them flowers from one of the largest flower companies in the country and found a glaring error. The team that built their website wasn’t thoughtful in categorizing their products. I typed “Feel Better” into the search function and the following suggested product turned up:

Quite the opposite message I wanted to send. Like most art, floral designs are open to interpretation. “Is it too romantic? Too lame? Too sad?” But this is a clear and simple message: You died. We’re sorry.

A simple review of the categorization of their products could’ve avoided this. Thankfully, my dark sense of humor found this funny. But for most people, I’m sure it was a different experience.

Taking the time to organize how simple things are listed will go a long way in whatever business you’re involved with. I’m taking the time today to review the content I have and see if I’ve made a similar error out there. The good thing about most errors, is they’re fixable.
