Every few months a new app starts trending in the world of social networks.

People get excited because it’s known that new social networks are an opportunity for social media fame.

Many of the top Instagramers and Viners started posting on the very first day the app launched. The later you join a network the harder it gets to gain followers or have your content trending.

Last weekend Peach was launched on iOS. Although the app is launched globally, but for now you can’t add friends from address book if you do not have a US number!

However people are already flocking to test the app and perhaps grab a bite of some potential peachy fame.

The app has gone viral and there are tons of news and posts about the app. It seems even @God has joined the app.

The overall experience feels like SnapChat and Slack have gotten married and Peach is their first child, a mix of both: fun engagments with commands.

On Peach you can actually discover and get discovered by people on Peach unlike on SnapChat.

On SnapChat, it’s almost impossible to find people. There is a page where you can view live stories but it is dedicated to channels like, MTV,CNN or content selected by SnapChat. But no way to find random people to follow like on Instagram or Twitter.

Peach on the other hand has a small detail that is different to SnapChat when it comes to discovering people. Once you add friends if they have defaulted for visibility friends of friends then you can also add their friends.

So how to get followers on Peach ?

  1. Post on your other social networks and ask people to add you

2. Search #peachapp on twitter or Vine and add people who have similar interests and are also asking for people to add them to peach

3. Once you have some friends on Peach you can check what they are posting and if you like it you can go ahead and add friends of their friends assuming they have the same interests.

I have been doing this for two days now and already have more followers than in SnapChat, which I have been using on and off for the past year.

Engagement numbers look good so far, the engagement mechanics are fun and look like people will be able to start building communities in the app.

Will Peach manage to retain and motivate these communities to continue engaging or will it it lose its charm after the first launch phase, like many other social media apps have done?

I think this is a start of a serious contender to SnapChat that has been the crowned prince of social media for the younger generations in the past few years.
