Math and English Final Project Awards
Because I teach both Math and English to Grade 1 students, I decided to merge my final exams for both these subjects into one big creative project. The students had to design a restaurant for their favorite character from any of the stories we took up in English Class for the first quarter. They had to answer some Mathematical questions related to the restaurant too (i.e. comparing and ordering prices).
To my surprise (and great delight) many of the students went beyond what I was expecting! In no particular order, here are my favorite restaurant designs, and some menus, from the students’ work last quarter:
Honey Beary Restaurant by Jared
Jared’s Restaurant for Baby Bear from “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”
Jared designed a cozy and honey-filled restaurant for Baby Bear. Here, the little bear is safe from Goldilocks who would otherwise steal his food.
Baa Baa Joint by Lucas
Lucas’ Restaurant for Baa Baa Black Sheep
Lucas’ restaurant idea is fancy just like Baa Baa Black Sheep. His restaurant’s menu is filled with healthy and vegetarian choices for Baa Baa, the generous black sheep.
Mara’s Resto by Mara
Mara’s Restaurant for Baby Bear from “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”
Mara’s restaurant was made especially for her favorite character: Baby Bear. The food and the design of the restaurant will make any bear (and human!) want to visit this place.
Baa Baa’s Vegetarian Restaurant by Enrique
Enrique’s Restaurant for Baa Baa Black Sheep
Enrique paid special attention to detail in crafting this restaurant for Baa Baa Black Sheep. All the items on the menu are vegetarian, so Baa Baa can enjoy them all!
Fun Fact: Enrique used photoshop to design his restaurant. The yellow speaker icon above him actually plays music too. Very cool!
Curious Fella Diner by Thirdy
Thirdy’s Restaurant for Curious George
Much like Curious George, Thirdy’s restaurant is fun, colorful, and comfortable. His menu is filled with one main ingredient that all monkeys love: bananas.
The Web Cafe by Khelsy
Khelsy’s Restaurant for Itsy Bitsy Spider
Itsy Bitsy Spider will find a home in Khelsy’s slightly spooky restaurant. She specifically designed the restaurant in such a way that there would be an outside dining area especially for Itsy Bitsy Spider, who loved the outdoors.
And that’s a wrap! I continue to be blown away by the work of my students. Keep up the good work, everyone.
