I’ve been exploring the many places to see in Vienna since I moved here at the beginning of September.

I live quite centrally, which is great, because I love to walk everywhere. You see so much of the city and I’ve discovered restaurants, shops, cafés and museums I probably never would have learned about.

Last Sunday, I walked to Belvedere Palace and gardens.

There is much history associated with the palace built as a summer residence for Prince Eugen von Savoy between 1714–1723. In 1955, the Austrian State Treaty was signed there, re-establishing Austria as an independent country after World War II.

The palace is beautiful, as you’ll see in my cover photo. It also houses a permanent collection of Gustav Klimt paintings.

There was a long line of tourists to get a ticket, so I decided to skip the interior and walk around the grounds.

I wasn’t disappointed.

There was a lovely reflecting pond and trees near the castle, then I discovered the huge botanical garden that just went on and on. It is maintained by the university of Vienna and…
