I’ll Never Be a Digital Nomad

That life used to be the dream, but now I don’t think so anymore.

For people who love to travel and create, nothing seems better than the digital nomad life. You move on every couple of months to a new destination and you create content or do other online work along the way to fund your travels. When I was 25, that sounded like the dream to me.

At 32, I still see its appeal, but I don’t think it’s for me anymore.

I’m not trying to cast shade on anyone else who dreams of this lifestyle or is currently living it, but through self-reflection in the last few years, I realize it’s probably not for me. And after all, isn’t it good to know that before you make such a major life change?

I Like Having a Home Base

From the age of 19 to the age of 29, I didn’t live anywhere for more than 3 years. I wasn’t a digital nomad, I just had family situations and then job-sponsored housing, so if I changed my job location, my apartment changed, even if it was in the same city.

Right before the pandemic hit, my husband and I moved into a house, and to be honest, I hated it. I hadn’t lived in an owned home since I was 8 years old. Since we bought an older home (the only way to stay on budget), it just felt like there were a million things wrong with it that were our…
