We all have different reasons for choosing the expat lifestyle.

Some of us left our home countries so we could get to know ourselves better. We needed to be out of our comfort zones so we could become the people we are today. Unfamiliar places unfamiliar people. We needed to see how strong we really are.

Maybe you’re a student with the opportunity of a lifetime to study abroad. Maybe this has nothing to do with your studies, and you wanted to say you did it before you graduated. Perhaps this will open the door for new job opportunities for you after you graduate college.

There are so many reasons for us to leave our old lives behind to start a new one.

And that’s the inspiration for the first ever Expat Prompt.

For the month of November, I want to know your stories. Why did you choose the expat life? You can make a regular essay, or you can write a poem discussing why you chose this way of life. Former expats are welcome, too!

When you’ve finished writing, be sure to make one of the tags Expat Prompt so that it’ll be easier to find.

I’ll be looking forward to reading your stories!
