Tips for Improving your Time Management Skills
Monetarily speaking even if you are the richest man on the planet you still cannot buy more time, this is a fact that has been proven time and time again. So, if time is so valuable to us why do we waste so much of it? Maybe you call yourself a natural born procrastinator or maybe you are flooding in work constantly. Luckily for you time management is not a magical god given talent, it is something that can be focused on and improved. When I was searching for other helpful blogs on time management I stumbled across Joanna Ngai’s post called 10 Hacks for Successful Time Management. These are 10 tips that can honestly help anybody who is struggling with managing their time, one of my favorites is her tip on automation. The writer argues that by taking the meaning less decisions out of your daily life you will be able to stay more productive for longer periods of time. This is an interesting idea that I truly have never thought of, but apparently this is an old trick that’s been used for ages. Ngai’s blog post uses a quote from Barack Obama that says “You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits. I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.” (Ngai, 2016) If this is a tactic that someone as busy as the man who ran our country uses it is something that I want to try out in my daily life.
Another tip from Ngai’s blog that I really felt was insightful was the section on getting technology to work for you. She gives several examples of different online services or apps you can use to delegate your time. Her examples got me thinking a bit about what I could do with my technology that I already to have to help make my life easier. So, I began playing with my phone and happened to find the reminders app on my iPhone. This right here is a major key and I can already tell will be very useful for me in the future. I honestly don’t think I will keep a planner ever again. It can do everything that my planner can except its right in the place where I spend most of my time. Plus, my planner wont alert, me when an upcoming assignment is going to be do like my phone can. This should be a helpful app and will keep the blog updated.
