I worked in college admissions for seven years before starting my current role as a podcaster. During that time, I frequently fielded questions from parents at parties and family events about how to complete their son or daughter’s application, apply for financial aid, or prepare for the SAT or ACT.

Mark Dunn of Yale’s admissions office received similar questions and how he has a solution — he can send them a link to his podcast.

Dunn is associate director of undergraduate admissions at Yale and one of the creators and cohosts of Inside the Yale Admissions Office, a new podcast that aims to shine a light on how the admissions process really works. It’s a question on a lot of people’s minds lately in the wake of the “Varsity Blues” scandal and questions about structural inequality.

The Yale admissions podcast is not going to solve all of those questions, but Dunn hopes that it can help prospective students and parents understand what goes into the decision-making process, and how they can create the best application possible.
