If you think about the 1930s, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? The Great Depression? The Dust Bowl? Franklin Delano Roosevelt?

Definitely not the fashion, right?

That’s a pity because the 1930s is a goldmine of fashion inspiration.

Unfortunately, it's a treasure trove forgotten by many - sandwiched between two iconic fashion eras — the roaring 20s and the post-war exuberance of the late 1940s and 50s.

Furthermore, although the 1930s saw a number of prominent fashion designers emerge onto the scene (including Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, Elsa Shiaperelli), its contributions to fashion history are more subtle than groundbreaking.

But, despite the lack of attention this causes, the 1930s had a unique and beautiful fashion aesthetic.

To see it, all you need do is watch an old black-and-white starring one of the silver screen darlings of the 30s — elegant bombshells like Marlene Dietrich, Katherine Hepburn, or Vivian Leigh.
