On Boys in Cars
You are destined to be wild
And bold
Desert and ocean
And unsettled heavens
And if you are something
That he cannot love
Then do not let him try to love you
Do not let him linger
Let your water
Drown
And your light
Burn
Refuse to quiet your skies
Not everyone
Is meant for you.
Tread
When you stop
And let the waters settle
You will feel the loneliness.
Do.
You are the current;
You will not drown.
You do not need
To look for comfort
Between his bed sheets and his thighs.
Did you forget
How strongly you swim.
