16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence: What 2 Things Men Should Do?
Let’s encourage men to do what’s right.
When it comes to 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, most talks are about what women can do to protect themselves. We hardly see any conversations regarding what men should do during this global campaign. Even though these 16 days are about violence against women and girls, it is necessary for men to actively participate in them so that they can learn how to support women connected to their lives in any way. One of the best things men can do during this movement is to be curious.
This path to curiosity can be started by doing two things. Begin with asking questions to female family members, friends, and colleagues regarding their experiences with any form of violence. Having question-answer conversations like these can help men know the impact of violence on women. Secondly, men should further ask each female individually how they want men to support them or play a good role when it comes to women dealing with gender-based violence. Support looks different for each woman. Listening to how different women want a different kind of support system can enable men to have a better approach to help.
Doing these two things in these 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence can make men real changemakers and help build a more compassionate world for women. That’s how we can truly make a positive impact and create ease for women’s lives.
