A passion for holistic health and martial arts

Homayoonsefat has brought her lifetime of martial arts expertise to Los Angeles, where in 2013 she founded Ladan’s Wellness Sanctuary in Beverly Hills. Her wellness center provides a holistic approach to physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

There are personalized one-on-one, semi-private and online classes tailored to each client’s health and fitness goals. Homayoonsefat creates specialized programs focused on overall health and fitness, pain control, weight control, stress relief and mind-body balance.

Her passion for holistic health and martial arts started in childhood. She began practicing fitness and martial arts at age three in her father’s gym in Tehran, Iran.

After her father suffered a devastating stroke when Homayoonsefat was 10 years old, she took on the responsibility of managing his physical therapy, nutrition and medications. This early adversity shaped her lifelong dedication to caring for others through holistic fitness and wellness practices.

The formative influence of her father

Homayoonsefat’s father was integral in nurturing her love for martial arts and instilling its core values from a very young age. As her first teacher and mentor, he instructed her in not just physical techniques, but the philosophical principles of respect, self-discipline and community service underlying the arts.

He ran a traditional Iranian martial arts sanctuary called a “Zoorkhaneh” aimed at cultivating strong character and morals in youth. There, he taught Homayoonsefat the importance of protecting and supporting others while remaining committed to their wellbeing.

These formative lessons shaped Homayoonsefat’s dedication to leveraging her martial arts mastery to help and empower people worldwide. Her father’s tragic disability only strengthened her resolve to honor his legacy through tireless work uplifting her community.

Escaping oppression to continue her calling

Homayoonsefat pursued her calling as a martial arts teacher and personal trainer in Iran. But she faced constant oppression under the Islamic regime for being a woman in sports.

She was jailed multiple times for pioneering women’s taekwondo. After enduring decades of tyranny, she escaped Iran in 2002 to continue her mission.

In the United States, Homayoonsefat has been able to fully realize her purpose of helping others achieve their fitness, wellness and self-defense goals regardless of gender, background or disabilities.

Empowering clients with diverse needs and abilities

Homayoonsefat takes immense satisfaction in working with a multifaceted range of clients, from athletes and actors to those with disabilities and physical challenges. She remains committed to helping all people attain their health and wellness vision, no matter what barriers they face. Homayoonsefat believes that within each person is an indomitable human spirit that can overcome any limitation.

Relentless training to become a martial arts pioneer

Homayoonsefat’s journey to the pinnacle of martial arts excellence was fueled by her intense lifelong determination to transcend gender barriers. She was compelled to prove that women could reach the highest levels in combat sports typically reserved for men.

From age three, Homayoonsefat’s singular focus was rigorous martial arts training. While other young girls played with dolls and toys, she spent every free moment conditioning her body and drilling techniques.

As a youth in Iran, Homayoonsefat secretly practiced for hours each day, studying movies and books to learn forms, combinations and fighting strategies. Her sole equipment was a worn-out punching bag in her tiny apartment.

After managing to join gyms and clubs, her training intensity reached new heights. She would arrive first thing in the morning and stay until late evening, her work ethic unmatched.

Homayoonsefat diversified her skillsets across taekwondo, karate, kickboxing and kung fu. She sought out elite masters, absorbing their knowledge like a sponge.

After fleeing Iran, Homayoonsefat’s fanatical training continued under Grandmaster Lee. She added dance, gymnastics and sword arts into the mix, honing her physique into an exemplary specimen of strength, speed and flexibility.

Homayoonsefat underwent boot camp-like conditioning including marathon sparring rounds, endless mountain runs and backbreaking strength exercises. She sharpened her arsenal of strikes, blocks, throws and submission holds.

At competitions, she dominated opponents with technical precision and extraordinary power. By her mid-20s, she captured world championships, cementing her icon status.

Homayoonsefat achieved her dream through an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her groundbreaking journey opened doors for women’s recognition and participation in martial arts.

Early life and inspiration in Iran

Homayoonsefat was born in Tehran, Iran and faced hardship from early childhood as a female in the male-dominated society. But she discovered inspiration in martial arts and fitness, which her father nurtured in her from age three.

Her father was initially hesitant to train his young daughter in rigorous combat arts. But recognizing her intense determination and talent, he relented and took her under his wing. He became her first teacher, instructing her in physical conditioning, flexibility and basic techniques.

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, women’s rights were forcefully revoked overnight. Authorities strictly prohibited females from sports, banning them from attending gyms or participating in physical fitness activities with men. Defiant women attempting to practice sports faced detention, lashing, or worse under Sharia law.

But Homayoonsefat refused to abandon her passion for martial arts and fitness. She boldly broke gender barriers by secretly training at men’s gyms, often disguising herself as a boy with caps covering her hair. When caught by authorities, she was brutally punished with beatings and arrests, but she persisted undaunted.

Unable to formally join any sports clubs, Homayoonsefat would sneak into men’s facilities late at night to secretly watch and learn techniques from Hong Kong martial arts movies on videotapes. She studied the moves meticulously, and then rigorously drilled the techniques. This became her primary training method, along with intense physical conditioning.

Jailed for Pioneering Women’s Taekwondo in Iran

By her late teens, Homayoonsefat began discreetly renting out exclusive gyms and sports clubs at night, finally granting her access to proper equipment and space. This proved pivotal, allowing her to intensify training and eventually compete internationally in taekwondo. She won medals at European tournaments, breaking new ground for women’s martial arts in Iran.

At just 20 years old, Homayoonsefat was appointed head of the Iranian Women’s Taekwondo Association. She worked relentlessly to build up the sport among women. But the Islamist regime responded by jailing and lashing her, threatening her family, and ordering her tortured for defiantly promoting women in sports.

Homayoonsefat refused to be silenced in the face of Iran’s vicious oppression of women. She began teaching female athletes at secret underground gyms, painstakingly training them to compete overseas. Several of her students later became national champions.

But the harsh government crackdowns intensified, forcing her to make an agonizing choice. She could stay in Iran but never fully realize her purpose while jeopardizing her safety and livelihood. Or dare to escape and pursue her dreams elsewhere.

Escaping Iran to achieve martial arts greatness

In 2002, after enduring decades of tyranny, Homayoonsefat made a perilous escape from Iran, finding sanctuary in Germany. There she ascended to the pinnacle of martial arts excellence under the tutelage of Grandmaster Keun Tae Lee, president of the World Martial Arts Federation in Europe.

Under Grandmaster Lee’s expert guidance, she swiftly earned black belts in Taekwondo, Karate and Kung Fu. She gained mastery in the deadly martial arts of Shaolin Kung Fu, Haidong Gumdo sword fighting, kickboxing and rhythmic gymnastics.

Her training intensity was incredible, starting at 5 a.m. and continuing late into the evening daily. She was absolutely resolute in perfecting every aspect of the arts.

In 2004, Homayoonsefat attained 6th dan black belt in Taekwondo, denoting complete mastery. After three more years of intense dedication, she ascended to the elite level of 7th dan black belt. This cemented her status as a grandmaster, one of the highest distinctions in martial arts.

By 2009, Grandmaster Homayoonsefat relocated to the United States, where she broadened her knowledge into fitness training, life coaching, pain management and hypnotherapy.

As a little girl, she endured the daily terror of bomb sirens and scrambling to shelters, along with the devastation of countless lives lost. With schools closed due to the attacks, she struggled with disruption and isolation.

Young Homayoonsefat found inspiration through her father’s martial arts training, which cultivated strength, discipline and hope within her. His wise guidance and care provided emotional support amid the chaos.

When disability struck him after a stroke, Homayoonsefat courageously took charge of her father’s intensive care while just a child herself. Driven by love, she immersed herself in medical studies to aid his recovery.
