Graduating with a bang

Koby is a British-Ghanian film writer/director who is making waves in the film industry following his graduation from London Film School in 2016.

Koby graduated with his short film House Girl which was shot in Accra, Ghana and raised over £10,000 on Kickstarter. The film was screened at festivals around the world including BAFTA-qualifying London Short Film Festival, Africa International Film Festival and Montréal World Film Festival among others.

The next big thing

Following the success of House Girl, Koby has certainly made a name for himself — most recently landing a director’s spot on the BBC’s much-anticipated adaptation of Malorie Blackman’s award-winning young adult book series Noughts + Crosses.

Prior to this, he wrote and directed a follow-up short film to House Girl called Hair Cut which starred Robbie Gee and was selected for funding by Film London’s London Calling Plus scheme — a huge achievement in itself. It also won the London Calling Plus Award.

Making a name

Koby’s impressive CV doesn’t end there. He has also worked with Genesis Cinema and the British Film Institute to hold a short film event as part of the BFI Blackstar Season, sat on a discussion panel at an Amnesty International screening of Oscar-winning American horror film Get Out for Black History Month, and sat on another discussion panel at the BFI Future Film Festival.

Award-winning

Unsurprisingly, talented Koby was awarded the John Brabourne Award in 2018 — a talent development programme that supports emerging talent in UK film and TV with financial grants.

Looking forward

If his career so far is anything to go off, it’s clear that a bright future lies ahead for Koby Adom — who is now focused on turning his debut film House Girl into a feature film, while working on other short films, commercials and music videos to keep his talent fresh and spoiling us with his wonderful creations.
