Patty Jenkins To Direct “Wonder Woman 2”
After weeks of speculation, Patty Jenkins is officially set to return to helm Wonder Woman 2 which will make her the highest paid female director in Hollywood. She directed the highly successful superhero film Wonder Woman that put female underrepresentation into the limelight. Hollywood is slowly but surely making strides to represent females and people of color in mainstream and independent films. But this announcement is a huge step in an industry where male directors get handed the keys to tentpole properties right after their indie debut or even with no directing experience to speak of.
The DCEU remains divisive in spite of recently producing a pretty spectacular Wonder Woman. DC Comics produced Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel, and Suicide Squad to name a few. Wonder Woman is the biggest film of this summer movie season and eventually will pass the $800 million mark at the worldwide box office. It was inevitable that the studios would greenlight a sequel. But having the same director behind the camera for its sequel is even better and guarantees both consistent vision and a feminine voice. We need more feminine voices to be heard behind and in front of the camera.
What do you think of this announcement? Are you excited that Patty Jenkins is returning for the sequel? Please be sure to write your thoughts in the comments section. Thanks for reading!
