Tom Hardy Set To Play “Venom” In Upcoming Spinoff For Sony
I wasn’t initially crazy about the idea of a Spider-Man spin-off involving Venom. Mainly because of my slight chagrin over the ever-growing superhero machine.
But I’ll take a Venom film starring Tom Hardy.
It was just announced that Tom Hardy will star as one of Spider-Man’s greatest foes, Venom in the upcoming spin-off for Sony Pictures that will be directed by Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer and is set to come out on October 5th, 2018.
Plot details are unknown but the character of Venom is an alien symbiote that attaches itself to a human host, infusing its host with incredible powers and most popularly, the character that inherited the Venom mantle was Eddie Brock who we last saw as Venom in Spider-Man 3 played by Topher Grace. But I’m sure we will get better results this time around because…the kid from That 70’s Show as Venom? Are you kidding me?
Anyhow, as for Tom Hardy, I think this is a neat move for him. One reason because he is going from playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, a DC film, to Venom for Marvel. Also, he is an actor that has normally done small roles in big films and big roles in smaller films. But we’re starting to see him in big roles in big films like in Mad Max: Fury Road and now this. Plus, since he has a penchant for playing villains and anti-heroes, he should be able to knock this role out of the park.
Initially, I wasn’t over the moon about this but thanks to Tom Hardy’s involvement, I am already sold and can’t wait how the film ends up being. Apparently, Hardy himself is a big fan of Venom. So I have faith that he’ll deliver as he always does.
What do you guys think of this casting choice? Are you as intrigued as I am or are you disinterested? Please be sure to write your thoughts in the comments section. Thanks for reading!
