Zac Efron To Play Ted Bundy In “Extremely Wicked, Shocking And Vile”

Heartthrob Zac Efron is looking to go from saving lives in the beaches of Baywatch to slaughtering them in the swamps of Florida as he is set to star as infamous serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shocking And Vile.

The film will be told from the perspective of Bundy’s longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who denied the murderous accusations against him for years before she finally turned him in to the police. It wasn’t until his execution when Kloepfer, along with the rest of the world, learned about the grisly nature of his crimes.

The project is a sudden leap from the comedic fare that Efron has dabbled into recently (Neighbors, Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates, the upcoming The Greatest Showman, etc..) and certainly a 180 from High School Musical, the films that gave him his breakthrough.

He has attempted to push himself in smaller, edgy fare with films like The Paperboy and At Any Price to little avail. But playing a role like Ted Bundy would be a way for him to really prove that he is not just a singing heartthrob or the hot frat boy from Neighbors.

But the fact that he can sing, do comedy, and dabble into drama is a testament to his versatility that I think he doesn’t get much credit for. So I believe that he could pull this role off and surprise those that have doubted his abilities.

What do you guys think? Are you as surprised by this casting decision as I am and what are your thoughts on Zac Efron as a performer? Please be sure to leave comments. Thanks for reading!
