While the crowds cheered during the final races on October 4, the staff members at Suffolk Downs reflected on their time at the track and wondered about what would come next for them.

Trisha, Concessions, 18 years

“Sometimes these things happen. I’ve been here for 18 years. But if they want to close us, what can you do?”

Singh, Cleaner, 20 years

“It’s sad, you know. I don’t know what I’m gonna do tomorrow.”

Richard, Bugler, 28 Years

“I play at racecourses up and down the East Coast. They brought me in today because this is obviously a special occasion.”

Chip, Chief Operating Officer, 22 Years

“It’s bittersweet. We wish the outcome could have been different, but we have reached the end of the road.”

Roger, Concessions, 2 Weeks

“I’ve only been here for two weeks, so…. I just hope the government steps in and does the right thing.”

Tammi Piermarini, Jockey, 29 Years

“The family is going to sit down tonight and talk about where we are going to go, see what makes sense.”

Carter, Security, 3 Years

“There are so many great people here, it’s a shame that we have to go.”

Elizabeth, Program Seller, 10 Years

“I’ve only been here for ten years, I’m basically the baby. Do you want this pictured clothed or unclothed?”
