You’ve all heard about the blatant sexism in the Fire Service and the never-ending stream of casual misogyny. Well, I’ve been out for a fair few years now, done shed loads of work on myself, so I’m starting to find it all a bit amusing.

I thought you might like to hear about the weird stuff? The things you probably wouldn’t believe cause it’s just so bloody bonkers. Well here are a few:

1. Your womb might fall out

One of the most bizarre rationales for women not being in the job, I was informed was because apparently, women just don’t know when their womb is going to fall out. A firefighter told me, in all seriousness that women should not be on the fireground as the escaped womb may be a tripping hazard. Someone may slip on it. What??? I mean the fireground is generally one big tripping and slipping hazard anyway, but should women be adding to this I hear you ask??

I mean really. How many times have you walked down the street and slipped on a womb? Or maybe swimming in the sea and think a jellyfish is coming your way, but phew, it’s just the freedom-fighting womb of the woman swimming in front of you. Happens all the time.
