Hillary as President

Hillary Clinton is going to get a lot of press today for her takedown of Donald Trump as an economic leader. Her remarks have already been cut up and portioned out by pundits across MSNBC, Fox News, and more.

But, perhaps more important than her eviscerating Trump is a quote from her remarks about her own stance on policy making — something that shed light on what kind of president she’d be.

First, she says she’s in favor of higher wages, bases on an economic theory (essentially, Keynesian demand-side economics) and says where voters can find more information.

It’s a pretty simple formula: higher wages lead to more demand, which leads to more jobs with higher wages. And I’ve laid out a detailed agenda to jumpstart this virtuous cycle. And you can go to my web site, HillaryClinton.com, and read all about it.

This is huge because she:

  1. Takes a stand;
  2. Shows that her position is based on a credible (if debatable) economic theory and;
  3. Empowers voters to find out more (ie, participate in the process).

More to the point, Hillary went on to say this is who she is as a person, and how she’d govern:

And I do admit, I — it’s a little wonky, but I have this old-fashioned idea that if you’re running for President, you should say what you want to do, how you’re going to pay for it, and how you’ll get it done.

I actually sweat the specifics because they matter. Whether one more kid gets health care may just be a detail in Washington — but it’s all that matters to that family worrying about their child.

You can read more of Clinton’s speech here. It’s worth it.

How refreshing to hear her being so inclusive, particularly in light of my last post on Trump, whose only idea of inclusion is making sure everyone is listening to him say how great he is.
