Two New Awards and a Melange of Fall and Holiday Activities Make this Texas Hill Country Resort a Top Choice

SAN ANTONIO (October 2021) — Falling in love with La Cantera Resort & Spa is easy thanks to a variety of fall foliage viewing, day trips into Texas Hill Country, wine tours, shopping, dining, whiskey tastings and more to create idyllic fall and holiday getaways. And, the property has recently garnered two more distinctive accolades as the #3 Resort in the Southwest in the 2021 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards and as the #5 Resort in Texas in the 2021 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards.

La Cantera Resort & Spa is set atop the highest elevation point in San Antonio providing ideal views over the rolling hills flecked with fall colors. Beyond the Resort, there are 5 spots within a 75-mile radius for stunning fall foliage viewing including Lost Maples State Park, with 11 miles of hiking trails and Bigtooth Maple trees believed to be relics of the last Ice Age.

Harvest season beckons a day trip to a Texas Hill Country winery in Fredricksburg and surrounding small towns, just a short drive away and with more than 50 scattered across its rolling hills. La Cantera can organize a wine tour complete with personal car service and picnic lunch to its Exclusive Winery Partners — seven of its favorite vineyards and wineries around the state include:

  • AB Astris Winery
  • Adega Vinho Winery
  • Cross Mountain Vineyards
  • Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyards
  • Slate Mill Wine Collective
  • Kalasi Cellars
  • Texas Heritage Vineyard

Shopping can also be arranged or added onto any wine tour with visits to some of Fredericksburg’s best shopping destinations including Farm Haus Antiques, Blackchalk Home + Laundry, Haberdashery and more.

After day trips and scenic hiking, guests can retreat to La Cantera’s Loma de Vida Spa with over 25,000 square feet of space and Sky Loft treatment rooms to soak up more views of the Hill Country and the Resort’s championship golf course. SEVEN, the Resort’s adult only floor, is ideal for a romantic getaway, or even more privacy can be found with one of 34 Villas offering its own dedicated check-in, pool and private transportation around the Resort.

The Resort’s 9 dining options range from al fresco dining with views at SweetFire Kitchen, to Grille 254, ideal for post-game beers on one of the Resort’s two golf courses. A fan-favorite is Signature, Inspired by Chef Andrew Weissman, serving chef Andrew’s contemporary interpretations of classic dishes enlivened with unconventional Texas spirit. Other options include charcuterie, craft cocktails, fresh juices, in-room dining and even fireside wine and sunset s’mores at Plaza San Saba.

Sire Bar at La Cantera has one of the best curated bourbon stocks in Texas and boasts more than 200 whiskeys from distilleries spanning Kentucky to Japan. They now host one of La Cantera’s most unique events, Women & Whiskey, a monthly series aiming to educate and entertain women on whiskey. This fall, Women & Whiskey attendees can warm up with Garrison Brothers Distillery and Treaty Oak Distilling.

Additional events include:

  • Game Time at Topaz: Every Sunday from 11:00 AM — 4:00 PM until October 23, the Adults Only Pool will roll out the big screen and the best of beer bucket deals for the ultimate poolside football experience.
  • Pinks on the Patio: La Cantera will go Pink during the month of October, with a portion of all room revenue going back to the WINGS organization, dedicated to filling the gap that exists between breast cancer detection and treatment for uninsured Texas women and men. Every Friday in October will see Pinks on the Patio at Sire Bar from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. There will be live music and themes like the Pink Masquerade on October 29.
  • SweetFire Kitchen will host a Thanksgiving Day Feast from 10:00 AM — 10:00 PM and a Christmas Day Feast from 10:00 AM — 10:00 PM. On New Years’ Eve, they will serve breakfast and dinner, and New Years’ Day will see a special Brunch served from 7:00 AM — 2:00 PM.
  • December events will include Holiday Markets, Teddy Bear Tea, and more. The Tree Lighting will take place on December 2 at 7:00 PM, and the Grinch Brunch at SweetFire Kitchen is on December 4.
