Cannes Creates Burkini Ban

The mayor of Cannes has banned religious clothing in public pools and on the beach. Of course, this is absolutely awful for Muslim women who have chosen modesty. The order reads, “Beachwear which ostentatiously displays religious affiliation, when France and places of worship are currently the target of terrorist attacks, is liable to create risks of disrupting public order.”

It’s grossly unfortunate that all Muslim women have to be pooled with extremists. The Collective Against Islamophobia in France plans to fight the ban in the highest court. (Via HuffPo)

Amber Gives Back

In what could quite possibly the bossiest move I’ve ever seen, Amber Heard donated her entire $7 million to charity. Amber said in a statement to People, “As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves.”

The sum will be split among several charities dedicated to stopping violence against women. (Via Cosmo)

Jewelry Brand Shades Ivanka Trump

Ivanka Trump recently engaged in some well-meaning online shopping courtesy of indie jewelry brand Lady Grey. Little did she know that once the owners got wind of her purchase they’d decide to add a special handwritten note to her ear cuff. The note read,

Dear Ivanka,

Thank you so much for your web order! We’re happy to let you know that the proceeds of your sale have been generously donated to the American Immigration Council, the Everytown for Gun Safety Organization, and the Hillary Clinton campaign. We hope you enjoy your new Lady Grey [Helix Ear Cuff].

Best,

Email Etiquette

Chances are you’ve been signing off your emails all wrong. No need for “best,” “kind regards,” or “sincerely.”

According to Rebecca Greenfield, the best sign-off is no sign-off at all. Get right to the meat of your message, but be polite and sincere. Tbh, that sounds a LOT harder than my standard salutations and farewells. Sigh. (Via Bloomberg)
