In-Flight Fashion

It’s taken two years for female British Airway flight attendants to be able to wear pants. Can you imagine? Skirts, year round, on drafty planes? Here’s the statement from BA, “Our Mixed Fleet team wear the ‘ambassador’ British Airways uniform. While trousers are not a standard part of this uniform, colleagues wishing to wear them can request this through their manager.” THROUGH THEIR MANAGER? Clearly there’s still some work left to do. About Half of Dermatologists Don’t Know Sh*t About Black Skin

Wanna hear something absolutely ridiculous? People with dark skin are at a greater risk for skin cancer NOT because of a lack of SPF or a genetic predisposition, but because doctors suck at spotting lesions on brown skin. Literally a whopping 50% of dermatologists reported that their medical schools failed to prepare them to diagnose cancer on Black skin. (Via Refinery 29)

That One Time Walmart Did the Walmart-iest Thing Ever

Eons ago in the Year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred ninety five, Walmart pulled a shirt off its shelves that dared to suggest that a woman would someday be president. Why would Walmart refuse to sell such a prophetic and adorable tee? “Family values.” The good news is Walmart responded with a pretty decent statement saying,

“Wow, it still pains us that we made this mistake 20 years ago. We’re proud of the fact that our country — and our company — has made so much progress in advancing women in the workplace, and in society.” (Via Jezebel)

Six Flags Sexism?

When Six Flags asked one park goer to change her shirt, she called them on their sexist policies, swapped shirts with her BF and re-entered the park. She posted the above pic on Facebook with the following caption:

“As I was entering Six Flags I was stopped by security because my top was considered inappropriate for the park’s standards. Apparently when a boy wears the same top it’s fine, so thank you for swapping shirts with me in the parking lot because we still live in a world of ridiculous double standards and sexism.”

Let the church say, “Amen.” (Via Seventeen)
