“Hey, You Have $15 Bucks … and you must build a super-team”

Do you know those posts? Well we are here to improve upon them and more importantly, compare it to Mortal Kombat. If there are two ideas that represent the Flagrant 2 at our core, it is the integrity of fake NBA super teams and classic video games. But really, these viral twitter sensations are great and it is fun to see how people value talent especially on a budget but there is always one major outlier…. The value of the players is never correct, and it drives us crazy.

So this time around, we look to switch things up. First off, all of the Warriors and Cavalier players have been removed because the name of the game is “Can you create a team with $25 dollars that can beat both the Cavs and Warriors in a seven game series”.

This is where Mortal Kombat comes into play, since the Warriors are Goro, and Lebron is clearly Shang Tsung …

Do you get it?

Goro has four arms while the Warriors have four absolute studs and Lebron definitely steals souls…. Just look at Iggy in last year’s finals.

Again …. You have $25 Dollars, and you need to pick Five Starters and a Sixth Man. You need great depth if you want to climb the mountain.

Here is the Player Pool …. Enjoy:

Hey, we created this!

Nigel

While I find some of these rankings to be slightly off (Holy Avery Bradley bias batman!) I do concur that this system is not only awesome but worthy of discussion. As basketball fans/enthusiasts, these types of lists pop up all the time. But when you push yourself (in this case, 6 players for $25 is kind of tough!). With that said I disagree with James about Fultz/Jackson/Simmons. I would never place these guys over proven NBA players. I also think Dirk is criminally undervalued, along with Schroeder.

Here are my picks:

PG — Dennis Schroeder — $5
Some of these picks are simply value plays, and me trying to fit this slim $25 margin together with just 6 guys. With all that said, I’m still very high on the tiny german Rondo. His turnovers are high, but he can make plays, is tough and is now (slightly) playoff tested. For this value, it doesn’t get much better in my opinion.

SG — Devin Booker — $7
Where do we start with Devin Booker? The guy really showed his studliness (is that a word?) This season. The 70 point game was the one that stood out to the general public. What stood out to me was the poise, composure and steady growth and maturity he has shown. The game winners over tough defenders. The fearlessness. His desire to be great. I want this guy for the next 15 years any day.

SF — PJ Tucker — $1
This is definitely one of the better value picks. Tucker is a hard nosed player who will hit open jumpers and play tough defense. Tucker can guard multiple positions, and that is super valuable on this team.

PF — Dirk Nowitzki — $2
Another criminal undervalue. I understand that he is old, but man! James is pretty much giving him away for 2 damn bucks. That said, his jumper is unguardable, and I want his veteran leadership and not to mention he is crazy clutch. James would argue that he is a defensive liability, but I say, you need his veteran leadership! Check the hardware.

C — Rudy Gobert — $8
It’s a steep price, but you need a defensive anchor. The stifle tower is that anchor. As you can see, I put a lot of stock in guys that just give a shit. Gobert will give you that hustle, tenacity and leadership you need. I LOVED when he called teammates out late in the season for not being team guys. I think it brought the team closer together.

Sixth Man — Kenneth Faried — $2
He is starting to creep up in age, but I want this energizer bunny all day. He still has the heart and tenacity of a young guy. He’s always hustling, sort of like a Joakim Noah type of motor. I want this guy on my squad, I don’t care the situation

James

I 100% stand by my player values …. And if Nigel cannot see the fun of having Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz and Josh Jackson over some of the lamer NBA guys then I cannot help him. Also, $5 for Schroeder is more than fair value.

I don’t need an explanation for my team, just enjoy:

Guard — Jimmy Butler — $9
Guard — Patty Mills — $1
Forward— Khris Middleton — $7
Forward — Robert Covington — $5
Center— Clint Capela — $2
Sixth Man— Marcus Smart — $1
