Tempus is a clean-tech company that uses AI and data science to control and optimize when energy is used. Predictions of energy prices and asset usage information are used to steer energy consumption to when it is cheap and clean. When prices are high fossil fuels are being drawn upon, the technology avoids turning appliances on during this time to reduce cost and lower carbon emissions. An industrial air conditioning unit, for instance, can be pre-cooled when we know the energy is coming from renewable sources and at a cheaper cost.
Right now, the technology is being trialled by Origin Energy with several of their large business customers in Australia — the first time this technology has been used in this way by a large electricity retailer. The aim of the trial with Origin Energy aim is to reduce the cost of electricity to their customers and increase the use of copious renewable energy resources available in Australia. n another initiative, Tempus will be using the FLEX Token through a Eurostars-funded project. This project partners with Alelion in Sweden and Germany with the goal of to optimising a lithium ion forklift truck batteries for a large Swedish furniture manufacturer.
So far, Tempus has worked mostly with SME’s and large businesses. Creating flexible assets is exactly what Tempus was created to achieve, but the next step in the journey is to access individual customers and to help them to see tailored results from demand flexibility.
