When Ferdinando Boero, a jellyfish expert from Italy, wrote to Frank Zappa with a very strange request, he wouldn’t have hoped for a reply. He was asking to name a recently discovered jellyfish after the famous musician.
Zappa replied saying “there is nothing I would like better than having a jellyfish with my name”.
Zappa eventually told Boero to come over his house and he did it: they spent some days together and became good friends.
Boero remembers when he rang the bell of Zappa’s home: he himself opened the door, with his guitar in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. “Then he started to show me his guitars. You know what it was like? Do you remember the first times you went to a friend’s place when you’re a kid? He shows you all his toys and stuff. Zappa did the same thing: his guitars were his toys”.
