In the 25th meeting of The Folded Paper, we asked Paperians to put a few characters in settings where we might not usually find them. Here is what they wrote, in just 5 minutes.

Paperian Shivangi wrote about a Detective in a Dessert,

I am a detective in a dessert
I see the clear blue sky and yet it appears mysterious
I see the vast land of nothingness and yet the wind seems to tell a story somehow
Maybe it’s me, I just can’t see anything as it is
Maybe it’s everything that carries a hidden meaning forwarding a hidden agenda
Maybe the mystery is that nothing is permanent
That everything keeps changing, leaving traces of their yesterdays to be carried forward into tomorrows
So yeah, I am a detective in a dessert
Deserted yet full of observations
Alone and yet not lonely
For my thoughts never seem to leave me sound
I am a detective in a dessert, lost and yet found!

Paperian Amrit wrote about a wildlife photographer in a city,

We are the wildlife photographers and this is our journey through the city aka the corporate world.

Most of the bosses at least in the corporate setting are described as authoritative, growling bosses, a perfect example would be John Jonah Johnson Jr., does it ring a bell? The boss who runs the newspaper Daily Bugle in the Marvel Universe, best depicted by the actor J.K. Simmons.

Do you want to know who is the Wildlife Photographer?

Yes, you have it, Peter Parker.

Oh wait is this another super-hero in the making? Well…. no, our character Peter Parker is a perfect misfit and one of the few reasons we so love him.

This is how their story will be narrated in Discovery channel -

“We can see the boss here. Look at how this majestic proud animal growls, he is so powerful and no wonder he is called the KING of the ANIMAL KINGDOM. I sometimes wonder what the other animals are actually thinking….”

Aren’t we all tribal animals even in this corporate world?

Paperian Akshay wrote about detective in a beach,

It was a day full of achievements for Detective Ron, as he got an interesting lead in the mysterious case of lost puppies. The dog owner, Mr Akshay, was so worried about the mysterious disappearance of baby dogs, that he went out to hire the successor to Sherlock Holmes, Detective Ron, one of the most prolific detectives of the 21st-century — A man known for his sheer focus, resilience and commitment.

So the lead was: on the night of the disappearance, there were some particles of sand found on the carpet, which was very shady. Upon investigation, the detective discovered a secret portal which could take you to the Bahamas Ocean, a place no less than a fairy tale, with beautiful oak trees, crystal clear water, and amazingly painted sky. The silhouettes were worth a heartbreak. When the news got out, it freaked the scientists around the globe, as this was nothing less than a miracle. Many people believed that the portal could have existed as a direct result of bootstrap paradox. It was finally when the baby dogs were found safe, Akshay could take a sigh of relief. Detective Ron yet again proved why he is considered the successor to Sherlock Holmes.
