In The Folded Paper’s Writing and Creativity Jam meetings, we give unconventional topics to write on to see where our creativity takes us.

In a recent meeting, we asked the Paperians to write a conversation between Summer and Winter seasons. Here is what came out of the meeting.

Summer: I am blooming with vibrant colours and you seem so black and white.

Winter: Is it?? Hey summer boy, have seen the beauty of snow-capped mountains. White colour does its own magic of spreading smiles on everyone’s faces.

Summer: If we are talking about magic, the blue sky and green forests just create the perfect magic. A magic where people come out of their homes and greet each other. Even gardens are filled with the giggles of children.

Winter: Even in my season people do come out, build snow man, give it beautiful names like “Olaf”, and create those beautiful wintry stories with him.

Summer: Huh! My season is so special that people like adorning themselves with colours and they don’t need to wear layer on layer. They can feel warm air on their skin to rejuvenate themselves.

Winter: Though it’s a task for people to wear layers of sweaters but that just creates a soft cushion for them and then they can just freely fall on the snow without getting any bruises. It is all logical in my season.

Summer: Oh come on, when you arrive, people become so lazy and gloomy all day. I give that sun-kissed glow on everyone’s faces. Your season just doesn’t let them come out of their cozy blankets.

Winter: Well summer, my friend, yes you are right. People stay indoors but they also spend time with their loved ones and have that food party along with fun indoor games.

Summer: Ok, got your point! Let us just stop fighting with each other and see the bright side of our seasons and we are like best of both worlds to everyone.

Winter: Cool summer, let us be an inspiration to people and create another story of friendship. Summer, let me say this, you are worth melting for.

Winter: Look at these humans maniacally capturing the clear blue sky topped with clouds as if they are cotton candies.

Summer: Well, dear winter, it is because you cover my beautiful sky in all the fog and smog. And not just sky but all the pretty monuments as well.

Winter: Oh summer, it is these humans who contribute to the pollution.

Summer: Well, you make them shiver in the nail biting cold.

Winter: What does it mean?

Summer: No, just one more reason to not like winters.

Winter: I have many reasons to love me. I let humans relish beloved Indian desserts like hot jalebis, gulab jamuns, and you can enjoy that with ice cream as well. Double win!

Summer: And then catch a cold. Haha!

Winter: What about the tan you give them?

Summer: Atleast they have a liberty to wear as less and light clothes as they want.

Winter: Umm.. summer is being naughty. But you know what is actually fun and practical, wearing as many clothes as you want. They hide that extra kilo as well.

Mic drop!

Summer: Do you think people wait for you? People just pray that you pass away soon. What good it is to stay under 20 blankets within 4 walls and still not feel comfortable. Such a looser you are. No use literally.

Winter: Jingle Bells!! Heard that before? Ohh, sorry you never get to experience December. Ask any kid if he is waiting for gifts or ask any elder if they are excited about their Christmas vacations or a new year eve? I have heard that number of holidays in May, June and July are same as you, ZERO.

Summer: Judging by holidays, huh. Summer Vacations Ahem Ahem!

Winter: Thank god they are there otherwise you would have burned half of the population.

Summer: I have heard you killed some homeless people last winter. SHAME

Winter: Ayee..That’s below the belt and it was not my fault. These humans have destroyed the natural order and I am forced to go to my extreme.

Summer: Always blaming others, aren’t you?

Winter: Okay. I heard farmers committed suicide because of you. You burned their crop, you caused famines. I don’t want to get started on it.

Summer: Hey Hey. You got serious man. I was just kidding. I did not mean any of it. I know it’s because of those greedy, ungrateful humans. They are reaping what they sowed or I may say some unfortunate ones are bearing the price.

Winter: Yeah dude.

Summer: Jokes apart. Truth is people never liked you. You know.

Winter: Shut up looser. I am leaving now. My time has come.
