Bundesliga Recap #1565
Hertha Berlin 1 Mainz 1
Hertha Berlin has had a surprisingly encouraging start to the season. Their personnel are the worst in the German topflight but have managed to grab some decent points. They were go on the road to Mainz the Berlin side goes into their house as underdogs. However, it turned out reasonably well for them. They find the back of the net at the half hour. Mark through Toshart even though Mainz was the more attacking side and had the higher quality chances. Berlin held on as long as they possibly could have. Until the very end as they nearly sold the points but ultimately right on schedule. Mainz manages to rescue a point very late on. Mainz still remained in the top 10 but splitting points and nearly losing to Berlin may be slightly concerning, but with still three wins on the season They don’t have too much to worry about as they’re able to rescue a point at home.
Leverkusen 1 Bremen 1
The biggest overachievers and the biggest underachievers went head-to-head on Saturday afternoon at the Bay arena. Leverkusen were highly expected to be one of the teams representing Germany in the Champions League next season. They remain to have one of the strongest squads in the league yet were not seeing the best of it. As they only have one win this season and just recently escaped from the relegation zone. On the other hand, Bremen has looked like a team that could potentially push for Europe as all the questions about them prior to their promotion have been answered. They have been able to hang with the best of them and really have been a breath of fresh air and a wonderful surprise. They are well coached and well put together as they would come into this one in a confident mood. A match that was split down the middle. Both teams showed their attacking abilities, creating high quality chances from both ends. Eventually Leverkusen broke through with a second half goal from Demirbay It looked as if they were going to hold firm at home and finally get the momentum rolling and their confidence back. However, 8 minutes left Bremen found the back of the net with a timely strike with a bit of luck. A great initial first save was picked up as the defense fell asleep. Seeing Bremen put home the equalizer. A point split between the teams as Leverkusen have to feel hard done by following a great performance but couldn’t get the result they needed as they stay near the bottom of the table while Bremen pick up a point.
Dortmund 1 Schalke 0
It was a very special Saturday afternoon clash as we saw the return of the Revierderby. One of the biggest rivalries in German football associated with the culture of the league and its history. As Dortmund took on the royal blues at home. The passion and energy of the city You could just feel it. It turned out to be a very tough and competitive game. With Dortmund attacking Schalke defensive pressure really so hang out the occasion. Unfortunately, Marco Reus had to leave the game injured on a stretcher however it has been recently confirmed that he will only be out a couple of weeks which will still see him return in time for the world cup in November. As it was a scare that he might miss out. It was a very tough opening 45 minutes with no goals between the teams. The royal blues tried to hold on as long as they possibly could until 17-year-olds rising star Moukoko got his head on the end of a cross into the box. Putting it into the top corner as Dortmund took the lead. The black and yellow of Dortmund managed to hold off their bitter rivals as they earn a narrow victory as they earn their points in the return of the famous Derby.
Augsburg 1 Bayern Munich 0
The biggest shock of the weekend came in Augsburg. As Bayern Munich arguably the best team in the world coming off results in the Champions League against Inter Milan and Barcelona. However, in the Bundesliga they have been tested and pushed following three straight draws against Gladbach, Union, Berlin and Stuttgart. Bayern Munich against Augsburg dominated possession. Had a lot of high-quality chances but still seem to be lacking something. It really seemed like Leroy Sane was carrying the load and doing absolutely everything from Munich. They had their opportunities to break through with the Augsberg goalkeeper performing at his absolute best. Even though Bayern Munich dominated large portions of this game and had most of the ball Augsburg we’re dangerous when they had the ball and eventually, they broke through to take the lead. Bayern Munich really pushed to get a point late. In the second half they had several opportunities but Augsburg continued to show up and deny them. In the final play of the game. Bayern Munich had a corner. Manuel Neuer pushed up and believe it or not he got on the end of it and nearly scoring but the Augsburg goalkeeper collected it as they did the impossible as they stop Munich in Augsburg. As Bayern Munich are now without a victory in the Bundesliga in the last 4 weeks. Nothing to be too concerned about yet, but not an ideal start to this season. On the other hand, Augsburg has struggled much of the season but managed to gather some more points as they stay clear of the bottom as they make it two wins in a row against them.
Eintracht Frankfurt 3 Stuttgart 1
Frankfurt, following triumph in the Champions League traveled to the Mercedes-Benz arena to take on the Stuttgart. Stuttgart had struggled this season but did manage to Nick a point from Bayern Munich last weekend. Meanwhile, Frankfurt started as badly as you could have possibly imagined. However, they have hit their stride at the right time and posed a serious threat to a Stuttgart team that is near the bottom of the pile. In the opening minutes Sebastian Rode wasted no time finding the back of the net as it was a Frankfurt day. In the second half they opened it up a little further as Dashi Kamada took over with a beautiful strike. Stuttgart eventually got to go back before the Japanese wizard set up Frankfurt for a third goal as the eagles cruised to victory heating up at exactly the right time. Stuttgart were essentially manhandled as the eagles glided to the three points without too much difficulty adding more gas to Stuttgart and their relegation fire.
Gladbach 3 RB Leipzig 0
Marco Rose made his Bundesliga return last week. Seeing RB Leipzig dominate and rip apart Dortmund. They’re valiant performance against Real Madrid despite defeat. You would have thought would have given them the confidence to go to Gladbach and take them out. However, what we saw from RB Leipzig at Borussia Park was quite the contrary. RBLeipzig has had a very difficult start to the new season as they have started very slowly failing even to be in the top 10 of the moment. Gladbach were more prepared and ready as they look like a completely different team under Daniel Farke. Gladbach was a team that could not finish her chances in front of goal listing. Doesn’t seem to have that problem. Jonas Hoffman scored very early before adding a second midway through the first half as Gladbach lead a 2–0 lead at the break. RB Leipzig really set themselves short with their performance as they could not handle what was being thrown at them. Ramy Bensebaini added a third in the second half as a Gladbach pushed RB Leipzig to the side in a comfortable victory as even more pressure mounts on RB Leipzig in there abysmal start to the season. Meanwhile, Daniel Farke and his Gladbach are trending up.
Freiburg 0 Hoffenheim 0
At Prezero Arena We saw a clash of two of the best teams in German football this season. Both Hoffenheim and Freiburg remain in the Champions League places and look to make a strong push towards the top of the table. One of the most attacking sides in Hoffenheim against a disciplined Freiburg that gives very little away. It was the classic attacking football versus defensive battle. We were expected to see fireworks but I just didn’t materialize. Both teams have chances to put themselves in front throughout the 90 minutes as it was very end-to-end and very exciting but finding a goal was difficult. A match really split down the middle throughout. They shared possession. Had a lot of the ball got themselves in dangerous positions but ultimately couldn’t break through. It was a goalless draw in Hoffenheim yet both teams still remain well positioned near the top of the table. Freiburg have drawn two games in a row, not necessarily something to worry about because they have a very complete team. But again, not what we expected from a team that looks so strong in so many areas. A classic battle but we couldn’t find a winner.
Bochum 1 Koln 1
Bochum came into this game as the worst team in the Bundesliga without any points on the season. Despite all the optimism about the season they had last campaign, they’re in against it. Meanwhile, hosting a cologne side that looks dangerous at their best. Yet another difficult task put in front of them. Eventually though they had to start getting some points. In the opening 10 minutes They benefited from an own goal. To put them in front they tried to hold it as long as they possibly could have. Still looking for the first one of the season. It felt like they were just there but then all of a sudden at the very end. Koln rally back to steal a point as the home side brutally frustrated with the final result. A point is better than none and they’re grateful for it, but they were so close to getting this season off the ground with a victory. Still without a victory in the season. Sitting with just one point while Koln still holding themselves in the top 10 this season and a game they definitely should have found a way through. As the home side didn’t have a shot on target the entire game but still managed to steal a point As you can sense at level of frustration on both sides as they split in Bochum.
Union Berlin 2 Wolfsburg 0
Union Berlin have had a historic start of the season. They came into the game sitting top of the league and with three points they would manage to stay there. No one really expected how well they have done. Yet it seems like they have found themselves in a Bundesliga title race that no one expected them to be in. They took points off of Bayern Munich. They beat RB Leipzig and look like an incredibly dangerous team that we all should be worrying about. They would be going up against a sinking ship in Wolfsburg that have had an erratic start to the season and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Managing just one win on this season as the goals are finding difficult to come by. Going up against Jordan Pefok and Becker was an antagonizing prospect. While Wolfsburg managed to keep them at a distance for the first half, eventually it came all crashing down. Jordan p. Fork puts Union Berlin in front and then Sheraldo Becker gets them a second only adding to Wolfsburg misery. Sheraldo Becker and Pefok continue to lead the charge as this Union Berlin team is sitting on the top of the pile in German football as they only seem to be getting better each week. The impossible may occur if they keep this pace. Union Berlin clearly as a team everyone should be worried about following another victory to start their very impressive season.
