Every transfer window is unique in its own way. Millions are spent to acquire new forces and strengthen the teams. The best players are the hardest to get. This time, such a saga happened with Declan Rice. Arsenal was willing to go the furthest and secured the England international. Despite the enormous transfer fee, it was money well spent. Let’s see why.

In the end, the transfer fee was £105million. Arsenal have beaten Manchester City in the race for the most wanted player in the UK. West Ham, long-time accustomed to losing Rice, made the most of the deal.

In recent years transfer fees skyrocketed. Especially in the Premier League, where teams are desperate for success. That said, Arsenal’s money for the former West Ham skipper was well spent. Here’s why.

The Gunners have fallen short of winning the Premier League in the past season despite leading for the most part of it. By securing Rice, they have sent a big message across to their competitors that they are prepared to go all the way this time.

With more matches in their hand (don’t forget that they have qualified for the Champions League next season, which they will take more seriously than Europa League), they will be needing more squad depth. Something that was clearly missing last season.
