Roma 1 Genoa 1FT

Stadio Luigi Ferraris

Roma has only taken two points from their first four games to start the season. However, before the international break, they took a goalless draw against Juventus which was their strongest performance of the season so far. Action would continue with four winnable games in a row before the big test against Inter Milan. Roma would head out on the road on Saturday afternoon to take on Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. A very difficult place to play. Last season, Roma got stampeded in a 4-1 defeat Even though they won the reverse fixture. It was not expected to be a walk in the park, but they were expected to get a result as they needed the momentum to recharge their season. Mario Hermoso and Matt Hummels have arrived since their last match hoping to deal with some of the issues they have faced in this early part of the season. Genoa has started pretty well in their second season after returning from the second division. They aim for another big result against a big side. As Roma and Genoa engage on a Saturday afternoon.

De Rossi make some changes to the team As he updates his formation to a 3-4-1-1. El Shaarawy inserted into the starting lineup as well as Manu Kone. Mattais Soule dropped to the bench. Angelino dropped to center back in the back three in a strange adjustment made by the Roma Boss. Genoa especially Wanted to take a Strong approach early on. In the 6th minute coming off an early corner, Caleb Ekuban gets his head on the end of a ball delivered in by Aaron Martin. It splits wide off Target. A nice little warning shot taken by Genoa. Roma, of course, had the means to reply though. In the 14th minute, Angeliño delivers a ball to Gianluca Mancini But his header is blocked before eventually being cleared out. then coming off the corner. Dybala sends a ball into cristante. He gets his head on it but this one not threatening the goalkeeper. In the 16th minute, the hosts hit back. Johann Vasquez from the wing delivers it into the box Caleb Ekuban is on the end of it but his header Spears too wide. Most of the chances have come offset pieces or through the air this far that trend seemingly would continue. In the 23rd minute coming off, a free kick Dybala drives into the box Evan Ndicka's header misfires in the end. A minute later however Alexis Salaemakers releases Kone on the counterattack, he drives the ball from distance over the corner putting too much on it. however, a nice idea for the newly signed Frenchman. eventually, Roma started to pick up some momentum in the 28th minute El Shaarawy missed the mark after striking from a complex angle and then gave me 30 second minute. Roma had their best chance of the game Dybala played through Artem Dovbyk In the box the Ukrainian got good luck as he followed through from point-blank range Gollini came up with the save. In the 37th minute, we would finally get our breakthrough El Shaarawy delivers a ball into the box coming from a cross It is then collected by Dybala then played into Niccolo Pisilli He takes a shot on goal which is inevitably blocked by the keeper then Artem Dovbyk picks up the rebound sending it into the back of the net as Roma. take a 1-0 lead. This would wrap up the first half with Roma holding on to the narrow margin. Genoa have played well and have had their moments from first glance it seems far from over but for the moment Roma have stuck their noses in front.

Roma hadn't exactly played particularly well to that point. However, in the late parts of the second half, they started to look much more dangerous as they progressed. Roma Now in a good position with the possibility of breaking through the glass and getting another goal. One more goal and they probably more or less wrap up the points. however, Genoa had played well and has had a couple of moments in their own right that have made Roma uncomfortable. A big 45 minutes left as Roma still eyeing their first victory of the Season. Early in the second half, Alexis Salaemakers had to be removed due to injury. Mario Hermoso makes his Roma debut as he comes off the bench. In the 51st minute. Aaron Martin loads an effort from outside the box Mile Svillar has come up with the save though. In the 53rd minute, Roma replied as Artem Dovbyk got in the action again A powerful effort from close range somehow is denied by Gollini. In the 60th minute, Caleb Ekuban struck at a complex angle Mile Svillar came up with the save. Roma would make three changes. Lorenzo Pellegrini for Niccolo Pisilli, Tommaso Baldanzi for Dybala and Zeki Celik for El Shaarawy. In the 67th minute, Ruslan Malinovskyi came very close to an equalizer fortunately Mile Svillar came up with a huge save. In the 71st minute, Roma tried to capitalize off the set piece as Cristante Spears his header wide. In the 79th minute, Ruslan Malinovskyi goes for it again as Mile Svillar makes the important save. Genoa was knocking on the door repeatedly throughout the final minutes. In the 91st minute Koni De Winter header was denied then in the 93rd minute Vitinha was stopped from outside the box. It seemed as if despite some limitations Roma was going to get the result. However, in the 96th minute, Koni De Winter followed through on the header as it ripped through the back of the net as Roma got their victory pulled out from underneath them. having to settle for yet another point. At the final whistle, it is a 1-1 draw As pressure mounts.

Roma has collected just three points from their first four matches. They saw a huge opportunity to take maximum points evaporate in the final seconds. Roma now just has three matches between now and Inter Milan in the league. De Rossi undoubtedly resurrected Roma last season when he took over from Jose. Now that he is struggling, everybody is highlighting the sacking of Mourinho. However, context does matter. At that time Jose should have been sacked. Roma were on their way to their worst season in 30 years. on the other side of things we look at it in the current landscape de Rossi has had a horrific start to the season in his own right. those two situations don't have anything to do with each other. So bringing up Jose about this season doesn't make any sense. The two of them will be compared just because of the situation. However, the situations they both find themselves in are very different. However, that being said, undoubtedly de Rossi is in some trouble. in past seasons, the fingers could be pointed At the players. However, for the most part, Roma has quality and essentially every position. This isn't simply on the players. Roma does need to be playing better. however, the players are not the ones to blame you. Roma have elite players at every single position. In terms of just the quality of the team on paper. they are a top-five team in Italy, easily. The formations and the tactics are the issue right now. De Rossi is holding them back to a degree with his constant mistakes. He changed the formation Sunday he put Angelino as a center back. He dropped Soule and then when Roma was in front instead of throwing on an attacking Player such as Shomurdov or Soule He took out Dybala. I am not opposed to Tommaso Baldanzi being thrown on. I think that he played well when he came on. However, taking out Dybala to me came across as conceiving the attacking play and just trying to see out the result. That would have been fine outside of the fact that Roma saw the three points disappear. De Rossi did a terrific job last season. However, this season he hasn't been able to figure it out with a much stronger team. Roma's next three games are against Venezia, Monza and Udinesse. Roma absolutely must win all three of those games. This has been a bad start with a great team. Roma simply need to get their season back on track. de Rossi must figure this out before it's too late.
