Inter take a giant leap towards the title and Roma are overwhelmed in Milan #1448

Score: Inter 3 Roma 1FT

A late equalizer from Stephan El Shaarawy denied Napoli of maximum points last weekend, likely having kicked out Napoli from the title race. Roma continues to look to qualify for the Europa League with a top-five finish this season, something that would be a larger successful campaign for these Romans. The Romans would have to travel to Milan to take on the most difficult challenge left this season. Having to go up against the likely winner Inter Milan for a third time this season. During the first two meetings, it didn’t go fondly for Roma. A 3–0 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico in the League and a 2–0 defeat in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals. From the outside looking in, it appears that Inter Milan provides a Roma with a considerable mismatch. However, coming into the game even away from home, Roma had reasons to be somewhat optimistic. Since January, Roma has been on a mission and has been one of the League’s most informed team as of late. Jose Mourinho has this Roma team unbeaten in their last 11 games; they have shown true character and the right mentality as they earned that point last weekend against one of the top sides in Italy as Napoli were in the title race until quite recently. However, because of Inter Milan’s strength of schedule, a win against Roma on this Saturday would unofficially confirm back-to-back League titles. It was expected to be a thrilling affair as things got underway in Milan.

Noise erupted at the San Siro in Milan in what was expected to be a tense atmosphere as Inter Milan start zeroing on another scudetto while Roma looked to secure Europa League football. Inter Milan has already beaten Roma twice this season as potential Champions. Inter Milan underwent a battle with red hot Roma and Jose Mourinho. There wasn’t really a possession of Advantage from either team; it was split right down the middle in that aspect, but it’s clear, and it was clear that Inter Milan had the momentum in the early part of the game. Federico DiMarco tries to get Inter Milan off to a rapid start. The wing-back got into an attacking position from outside the box, trying to test Rui Patricio but the Portuguese shot stop collected the ball into his bottom corner. Inter Milan did seem on top of it as they pressurized a Roma defense that has been quite impressive as of late. Inter Milan still hadn’t pulled away as of yet; they had a considerable Advantage as far as a talented quality standpoint but Roma for determined to hold them off early. On the Roma side of things, they couldn’t push back can pressure Inter Milan it was a difficult proposition, to begin with, and the Romans were finding that out as expected. However, Roma was playing quite well; they found their moments even against a team like that. Right before the half-hour mark on a set piece, Lorenzo Pellegrini supplied a ball into the box, finding Gianluca Mancini; the center-back managed to get his head on its end, not quite enough to take the lead. Unfortunately, this is the complication I’m going up against this inter. In the 30th minute, Hakan got Inter Milan on the break pushing forward before reading the situation as he threaded a through ball into Denzel Dumfries, connecting into the bottom corner beating Rui Patricio as Inter Milan at took a 1–0 lead. Truly frustrating as Roma nearly scored a minute earlier. Inter Milan was fired up it was unclear if Roma were going to be able to stop it how would they going to get their momentum back after it went away so quickly. 10 minutes later, in the 40th minute, following a missed chance by Martinez this time Inter Milan was not going to be denied. In the 40th minute, Ivan perisic got the ball on the left side of the box, finding Marcelo brozovic as the Croatian made no mistake sliding a strike into the bottom corner and just like that, Inter held a 2–0 lead. In the final moment of the first half Federico DiMarco sent a cross into the box of finding and Denzel Dumfries, but Inter was unable to extend it further; after 45 minutes, Inter Milan held a 2–0 lead at the San Siro over Roma.

Roma had played a very productive opening 29 minutes before everything started collapsing. It wasn’t something that Roma was doing per se; they nearly scored, and then Inter Milan scored twice within 10 minutes. Roma had plenty of reasons to be incredibly frustrated; they were now in a hole they probably wouldn’t get out of. They were going to have to risk everything just with an opportunity to get back in the game, and it seemed like it was already too late. Brozovic and Denzel Dumfries scoring so quickly through the dagger; any chance of Roma getting something from the game. The second half kicked off, and Inter Milan had an advantage but yet again demoralized Roma even further. Rui Patricio denied Martinez at the very start of the second half; just minutes later in the 52nd minute, Martinez scored his third goal in his last three games after getting a brace in the Coppa Italia semi-final against AC Milan. The Argentine gets on the end of a Hakan cross has the Turkish International places it perfectly for Martinez to finish it all with ease as Inter Milan took a 3–0 lead. The game was already gone. Inter Milan’s quality and talent were just so overpowering Roma couldn’t do anything despite their best efforts. Roma would try to find inspiration if Pellegrini got a pair of chances. 5 minutes later, the Roma captain’s initial strike was deflected before following up testing Samir Handanovic, but Inter’s veteran goalkeeper diffuses the situation. Shortly after a, Roma would make a pair of changes bringing Carles Perez for Stephan El Shaarawy and Jordan veretout in for Lorenzo Pellegrini. Taking Pellegrini out of the game may seem controversial, but honestly, Mourinho made the right decision; the Roma still needs to stay focused on this game and qualify for the Europa League with a top-five finish; the game was cooked no sense in risking him any further. Shortly after the changes were made, Tammy Abraham had a chance to minimize the deficit but could not get his goal as his strike from inside the Box hooks to the left. Shomurodov, Matias Vina, and Aguado Bove all were introduced for Romo during the closing stretches of the game. Correa looks to get another for Inter, with rui Patricio denying him from close range; then, not long after, Martinez is denied from a difficult angle. For the most part, Inter Milan was just holding out for the points at this stage, but with 5 minutes to go in the 85th minute, Roma did get a goal back. Shomurodov finds henrikh Mkhitaryan in the Box in close range as the Armenian beats Samir handanovic to get Roma a meaningless consolation goal at the end. Inter Milan just steps away from the title at the final whistle now, following a 3–1 victory against Rome at the San Siro.

Roma came into this without a defeat in their last 11 games. Since January, they have been putting together an impeccable run that has seen them fall into the top five with the Europa League qualification in their grass for now. Last week, they got a late equalizer against Napoli, a true display of their mentality. They came into a supreme challenge against Inter Milan in the right Spirit with the right attitude and the right strategy. They’re starting 11 was well put together with no real complaints regarding the team selection for the adjustments made by Mourinho. Roma didn’t do anything wrong they played as well as they could have in Milan against the best team in the League. From Roma’s perspective, there’s nothing you can say that they could have done better; it wasn’t a perfect performance, but they played well enough to win a game, just not against this team. They would have collected maximum points if they played like this against a lesser team. I’m not saying it was spotless without any improvements necessary but what I am saying is Roma is not at fault for their defeat. Inter Milan, to put as simply as possible, is they are just too good. They are the best team in league with very few flaws whatsoever. They are not unbeatable, but they are as close to Unstoppable as it gets in Italian football. There are so many different ways that they can attack you. They have the best starting 11 in the League; they are a complete team with Incredible depth. There is a reason that they’re going to win back-to-back titles; they have my player of the season in Nicolo Barella, not to mention they are solid, and the defense created in the Midfield and the attacking options they have in the striker position it’s hard to contend with Martinez Correa and edin Dzeko. The scary thing is this team will upgrade yet again this summer; they will bring a few important pieces back as they will go for three in a row. Inter Milan handled the game without too much difficulty. Inter are insane from top to bottom; it takes an awful lot to stop them, and even though Roma managed to score in the game and have the right mentality and attitude, Inter Milan’s incredible ability and talent just overpower them with nothing Roma could do about it. The Romans should be happy with their performance even if the result didn’t come their way; there’s no explanation for what Roma could have done to have gotten something from this game. Honestly, I’m not sure there’s a way they would have beat them. Inter Milan is the best team in the League; by far, we will win the League again. Roma did what they could, but Inter Milan just had too much for them.
