95' Luka Jovic (Serbia)

Allianz Arena, Munich

The European championships here in Germany continue with our coverage of Day 6 with the second round of group games. We are back in Munich At the Allianz Arena For a group C clash between Slovenia and Serbia. both Nations can be reasonably happy with the way they performed in their first group match. Slovenia took a 1-1 draw with Denmark in Stuttgart. despite playing fairly poorly The first half of that match they put together an incredible second half performance getting themselves level and battered the Danes for the last 20 minutes even though they couldn't get a winner. Overall, will be very happy with the point they received against Denmark. a pathway for the round of 16 currently sits in their lap in Munich. A victory for Benjamin Sesko and company will go a long way in possibly confirming a spot in the knockouts. not necessarily A must-win but they do have England last in this group, So they'll at least steal that they need to get a result. on the other side of the coin, Serbia fell to England with a 1-0 defeat. Despite a strong chance from Vlahovic at the end they did come up short. Jordan Pickford's save insured England's points. However, Serbia outplayed England for roughly 70 minutes but couldn't crack the English defense. So, from a performance standpoint they will be satisfied with it. however, they know now that they need maximum points to give themselves. any chance of surviving this group and a possible place for Serbia in the knockout rounds. For Serbia, it is almost a must win even as a third-place team to pull it off with just three points will be difficult unless they have a goal scoring clinic in their final game. both of these sides more than capable of punching their ticket into the knockout phase. Nothing will be confirmed after this evening, but a victory for either would take them a big step towards their goal of getting out of the group as a Group C exchange between Serbia and Slovenia will make shape in Munich on Thursday early afternoon kick off the coverage in the opening match of the day.

Serbia and Slovenia are very evenly matched and actually quite similar in terms of squads. It was unpredictable. which of them was going to show their superiority. from kickoff it did appear that that was Slovenia. as they break into the Serbian area inside of 5 minutes. In the fourth minute Andraz Sporar takes it forward before dumping it off to Adam Gnezda Cerin the Panathinaikos Midfielder unloads a strike from distance as Rajkovic comes up with it. A quick fire starts for Slovenia. They would continue to build on it with another in the 8th minute Benjamin Sesko moves the ball comfortably before sliding it into Jan Mlakar as he whips it in providing the touch from the 6-yard box Rajkovic coming up with another intuition making the save. Slovenia, despite having less of the ball shows their quality as Serbia was a non-factor early on with the attacking phase. not exactly coming into fruition. In the 20th minute Vanja Drkusic drops a ball into the box for Andraz Sporar He gets a shot on it but his effort collides with the Serbian defense as Serbia get out of trouble again. eventually though Serbia would wake up. In the 27th minute Dusan Vlahovic makes a run into the box. the ball is dropped in from the wing from Illic The header can't get past the big Slovenian as Oblak stops the Serie A connection In its tracks. It has been anticlimactic so far with Slovenia having the better chances as the first half began winding to a close Slovenia come within inches of an opener. In the 38th minute Timi Max Elsnik collects the ball into the box as he drags an effort that smashes into the right post. A very well taken strike as Slovenia come within inches. Benjamin Sesko attempt to pick up off the rebound, but the Leipzig star misses the mark as he he probably should have done better than that with a massive goal scoring opportunity. squandered. However, in the closing moments, Andrija Zivkovic moves it well down the side as the PAOK Thessaloniki FC winger drops it in for Aleksandar Mitrovic He takes a well-taking effort but Oblak Is unfazed as he gets on top of it. that would signify the end of the first half without a goal from either side, as Slovenia hitting the post remains the only close call we have seen to this point.

There wasn't much to take from that first half. low volume chances without much going for either. However, thus far Slovenia has looked the better of the two sides as The first half comes to a close. We very much expect the attacking play to open up in the second half. Serbia didn't waste any time to start the second half In the 47th minute Tadic delivers a through ball into Aleksandar Mitrovic on the counter attack Very well taken as he looks to glide it into the bottom corner before Oblak collects it. A little more than 10 minutes later in the 58th minute. Slovenia got back into it. Benjamin Sesko It's a deep strike with vengeance as he stings the gloves of Rajkovic. In the 65th minute Serbia got on the counter attack again. it was Luka Jovic facilitating Aleksandar Mitrovic unfortunately he lacked something on the finish. It would truly look like an opportunity missed in the 68th minute Slovenia push forward on the counter-attack. Timi Max Elsnik brings it down the left side with Benjamin Sesko In the middle & Zan Karnicnik out wide. the cross comes low past Benjamin Sesko Right at the left post Zan Karnicnik Hits it on the bounce on the first touch somewhat awkwardly as it finds its way into the top right corner as Slovenia take a 1-0 lead with a little more then 20 minutes to go.

Possibly closing in on their first victory at the European championships. Serbia would now need to fight back to avoid elimination. Serbia got forward. looking to squeeze chances into the attacking area, however, the vast majority of their opportunities couldn't break through the Slovenian defense. despite creating a lot of chances, most of them ended up off Target. In the 83rd minute Lazar Samardzic Hit a strike from distance for Serbia, the Serie A star looks to be the hero. his strike comes close that lands on top of the neck as frustration grows for Serbia as they are running at a time. however, the magic of the European championships would occur in the 95th minute. The last corner of the match the last kick goalkeeper pushed forward as a corner is drilled in Luka Jovic catches it on the back of his head as it flies into the back of the net, nothing the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper could do about it. Serbia gets their equalizer as it is heartbreak for Slovenia, they get their first victory at the European championships snatched in the dying minutes.

A brutal end to West Slovenia. they were so close not only to take a giant leap forward in the group but also It would have been a historic afternoon for Slovenia. It wasn't the most end-to-end battle to say the least. It took a while for the match to open up and chances to come left and right. However, Slovenia played extremely well. They defended at a high level. got some really good contributions from Oblak as they were dangerous at different points in time. Maybe perhaps not the duration of the match, but they were to me the better of the two sides. him probably deserved maximum points. Serbia took their moment at the end there and had a few moments prior to that. however, Slovenia hit the post in the first half and have some very close calls afterwards. Slovenia seem to be somewhat in the driver seat up until the very end. Dumb luck caused their defeat Serbia desperation needing a point to stay alive and manage to get it. Serbia did decently well but honestly Slovenia seem to be the ones driving the game. A lot of credit should go to Serbia for the way they handle themselves late on and got their moment when they needed it. unfortunately it robs Slovenia of History. There will still be an opportunity to win next week against England, but it is very unlikely at this point. However, Slovenia have two points so far and Serbia have just one point. However, both Slovenia and Serbia stay alive. Slovenia will need to beat England to give themselves a real shot and Serbia will need to do the same with Denmark. However, Serbia will also need a bit of help from the other fixture. They save themselves from elimination while Slovenia missed out on possibly their first ever win at the European championships . Serbia and Slovenia get a point A piece in Munich.
