Julian Schuster's Freiburg returns home to the Black Forest as They looked to make it two wins out of three to start the season. After falling narrowly to Bayern Munich in Bavaria before the international break. They have looked fairly strong at the start of the season and will be looking To keep that momentum and confidence going at home with a great chance to get back in the win column again with maximum points this afternoon. On the other side of the coin, Bochum hasn't got off to the best start with two consecutive losses against RB Leipzig & Gladbach. Two very difficult matches to kick off the campaign. However, they must start performing better as things could get out of hand early for Peter Zeidler they now have to battle Freiburg on the road which will be a very difficult scenario for them. However, that said new loan signing Myron Boadu looking to provide a bit of a bigger attacking option for the visitors as they are set to battle against Vincenzo Grifo & Doan In the Black Forest As kickoff approaches at the Europa Park station.
Bochum put themselves in dangerous positions early with an aggressive approach. In the first minute, Koji Miyoshi stretches it from range as the Japanese International follows through on a strike from distance, although it delivers a warning shot Noah Atubolu not forced to react. Even with the early chance Freiburg didn't operate on the back burner as they came right back at them. In 6th minute Freiburg won themselves a free kick. Vincenzo Grifo stepped over it and delivered an excellent cross into the box Maximilian Eggestein gets on the end of it as It fires off Target. It was fairly contentious between the two sides. A bit back and forth as they look to take advantage. Both sides with plenty of the ball. Just waiting for that moment to find an opening. Freiburg slowly started to open up their attack. In the 12th minute, Vincenzo Grifo makes a run to the left side of the box before getting his shot deflected As Freiburg Win themselves a corner Vincenzo Grifo delivers it into the box as he connects with Doan The Japanese International drives his header to the left. Freiburg started to take control as they created more and more chances for themselves. In the 17th minute, Patrick Osterhage pushes the ball forward before finding an opening Merlin Röhl unloads one for me close but takes another deflection. Bochum handling itself quite well defensively but there's no doubt they are dealing with some extreme pressure coming from the home side. On the following corner. Vincenzo Grifo sent a cross into Lucas Kubler narrowly missing off. Freiburg just kept coming In the 22nd minute Max Rosenfelder pushed the ball forward Merlin Röhl followed through drilling it at the keeper. The superiority was trending towards the lads from the Black Forest. A moment later he had to come up with another save as Ritsu Doan sent one at point-blank range. Bochum All of a sudden having difficulties keeping Freiburg from attacking positions. As we got later into the first half, neither team could find a breakthrough. In the 37th minute. Vincenzo Grifo had a pair of chances to hide it from a distance as it deflected and then tried from the left side but once again faced a block from the opposing defense. In the 39th minute, Bochum displayed a touch of resistance as Jakov Medic took a well-timed effort coming off a corner but couldn't cash in. In the 42nd minute, Vincenzo Grifo delivers another pass for Ritsu Doan A good effort but is denied from close range. Freiburg has been incredibly aggressive and has been nearly there on a multitude of occasions. It felt as if they were knocking on the door. However, the polar opposite would occur. In the 45th minute, Bochum sends the ball into the box Myron Boadu gets a touch on it right in front of the goal as he sticks his foot out laying it into the back of the net as Bochum takes a 1-0 lead. A surprising turn of events sees Freiburg behind in the Black Forest. 3 minutes later they nearly scored again. Koji Miyoshi unloads a strike from the halfway line. A low strike Noah Atubolu chases down the ball that was heading toward his near post from distance. He exerts himself at the last second pushing it away and falling into his own net but keeping it out with incredibly fast instincts from the goalkeeper as the first half comes to a close with Bochum holding a narrow 1-0 lead.
Freiburg has been undoubtedly be better side in the first 45 minutes, but somehow find themselves behind as the visitors take advantage at the very end of the first half. That being said, Freiburg playing well and just needed to put it together. They ended up making a couple of changes before the second half in hopes of turning it around and retaking their authority. The first minute of the second half they showed their intent. In the 46th minute, Vincenzo Grifo makes a run down the flank. He views the ball into the box Junior Adamu strikes getting a good touch on it but again a save is made. Doan A minute later looked for the touch however he was a little trigger-happy on the touch. Maximilian Wittek delivers a ball for Philip Hoffman as he follows through on the left side curling over the corner. Maximilian Wittek Just gave it another touch 2 minutes later in the 79th minute, but his lone ranger doesn't test the goalkeeper. It seemed rather hopeless as the amount of chances was limited and by large part, Freiburg had been significantly the better side. In the 86th minute, Christian Gunter sends a cross into the box Junior Adamu looking for a hat trick but is denied by the keeper. Freiburg may be seeing this thing out but they weren't exactly taking their foot off the gas. They wanted to kill this thing off once and for all. In the 88th minute Lucas Höler scores but it is wiped off with not much time remaining. In the 93rd minute, Philip Hoffman delivers a headed pass Moritz-Broni Kwarteng puts his foot through it hoping to grab an equalizer at the death, however, it's buyers over as the full-time whistle goes. Freiburg overcame a first-half deficit to earn a 2-1 victory as They take two wins out of three to start the season.
This new era of Freiburg seems to be off to an awfully good start. Two very strong victories and then battled with Bayern Munich in defeat. Julian Schuster's Freiburg has the capabilities of something special this season. In the Black Forest, they had to say goodbye to a legend last season Christian Streich. They were on the doorstep of Europe for many years and qualified for the Europa League. 3 years in a row. Freiburg was even within a whisker of qualifying for the Champions League on more than one occasion. It was quite a transition but it seems to be off to a good start what we have seen from Freiburg if anything is their ability to handle tough situations and adversity. In both of their victories, they have come back from a deficit. They went down in the first half in a lot of ways dominating the match. They then operated extremely quickly scoring twice within minutes of each other. Junior didn't do much in the first half, but he came to life in the final 45 minutes scoring twice and even having opportunities to score a third. More strong showings from both Doan and Vincenzo Grifo Top to bottom. This is an incredibly well-balanced side. While the Champions League is probably unlikely, a European position isn't completely off the table. It's way too early to be suspecting one way or another whether or not they are a European team or not. However, they have shown some real quality in the 180 minutes that we have seen from them. They are well balanced with good pieces around not possessing a but Vincenzo Grifo could be argued as one. They have decent pieces in attack as goal-scoring options. They have good pieces in the Midfield and they defend reasonably well. The defense needs to be a bit sharper. Perhaps not having to come back from a deficit to win. It's only been two games so perhaps it's not a growing theme. However, they have shown their ability to battle through adversity if needed. They played very well from start to finish and have looked good this season. Maybe not necessarily blow away everyone, but there seems to be a lot to this side and possibly can overachieve some of the expectations they are expected to finish in the top 10 but if they can push back into Europe the year after Christian Streich departure, it would be an incredibly successful season. It's too early to proclaim anything. However, the first impressions of Julian Schuster's Freiburg have been a strong one. A very good performance at home in the Black Forest as they have taken seven points and six points for a possible nine. Meanwhile, Bochum appears to be in a little bit of trouble. They took the lead and then lost it so quickly. They have lost three consecutive games. They are currently setting themselves up for a relegation fight this season. However, that being said, they do have some quality in here and if they can figure it out they can turn around their disasters start of the season. They are likely to be battling near the bottom of the table for survival, however, they need to get things back and moving. Freiburg, Leipzig, and Gladbach are incredibly difficult. First three matches. They have gotten out of this stretch with no points. However, once the fixtures settle. There will be some opportunities for them to start getting some points although based on what they have upcoming with Wolfsburg, Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Frankfort being the next six matches There could be some trouble. They have some players that can make a difference. However, collectively they need to be sharper and when they have opportunities to take points they must capitalize it seeing the match slip through their fingers the way it did so quickly. Isn't going to cut it. They know as much as anyone that if things get out of hand early on they're going to find themselves in an uphill battle their experience in the Black Forest was not a memorable one as Freiburg pulled off a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon as they stay perfect in the Black Forres.t
