Atalanta 2 A.S Roma 0FT

Last weekend Roma fell in Naples to Napoli in a very narrow 1-0 defeat. Roma played reasonably well in Claudio Ranieri's return. Then in midweek, they traveled to London to take on Tottenham In the Europa League However, it was A truly outstanding performance. Overall. It ended up being a 2-2 draw with Roma scoring three disallowed goals, but fortunately, Matt Hummels poked in The Equalizer in stoppage time. They would return to Rome on Monday to host Atalanta At the Stadio Olimpico. The side from Bergamo has truly shown to be a title contender this season. The disruption in the Inter Milan and Fiorentina match was due to the health and collapse of former Roma Midfielder Bove. The side from Bergamo will have a chance to go within one point of the top of the table. Atalanta Is coming off a Europa League triumph At the end of last season. They have geared up for this campaign and have been one of the best attacking sides in Italy. They appear to be in a title race. The last few times they ended up in a Title race. They happen to fall short. However, this side in particular has a very strong chance to be in the thick of it until the very end. Roma certainly had their work cut out for them even if it was at home. Roma or another poor result away from being in a relegation battle for real. Roma is far too good to get relegated however, if they don't start picking up significant points very soon even though they won't go down, they certainly will have to battle for points and get themselves out of the area. Roma's worst season in the last 30 years was 1996 when they finished 12th Roma on Monday night on prime time would have a great opportunity to pull off a huge upset against Atalanta at home. As Roma seek points as they battle title contender Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico.

Atalanta has won seven matches in a row. They were looking to make it eight. They showed their superiority very early on. Even though Roma had their fans behind them it was the return to Rome since Claudio Ranieri made his return to Rome. In the 4th minute, Matteo Ruggeri delivered a cross into the box Mateo Retegui gets his hat on the end of it before Mile Svillar makes the early save. A few moments later Leandro Paredes went for the spectacular from 35 M out trying to slip one over the goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi Managers to collect it. The side from Bergamo ended up with a slight advantage in possession. However, on occasion, Roma got themselves in the attacking area as they tried to make things happen. In the 13th minute,e Manu Kone follows through on a strike as he drags an effort From outside the box over the goal not truly being able to test the opposition. In the 23rd minute, Matteo Ruggeri being the facilitator again sends a cross into the box Raoul Bellanova drags it on the end of his foot from the center of the box, but hooks it over the corner. Shortly after Artem Dovbyk was pulled down in the box in what was a clear penalty. He is pushed from the back while also getting pulled down. However, once again, another potential refereeing decision goes against Roma in what has seemed far too similar To what we have seen this season. In the 23rd minute, Ademola Lookman stuck it in the back of the net but the Nigerian was offside. In the 30th minute, Charles De Ketelaere follows through on a header from very close range but it flies into the hands of the Serbian keeper. Mile Svillar continues to be a big factor in one of the minimal positives from Roma this season. Matteo Ruggeri continues to be the difference Maker for Atalanta particularly in terms of servicing the attack. In the 31st minute, Matteo Ruggeri puts one into Raoul Bellanova As he connects on a header that narrowly drags wide. Then in the 34th minute, Raoul Bellanova put it into Mateo Retegui off the header again as it frails off Target. It would be more of the same as the first half was starting to come to a close. In the 41st minute Mateo Retegui Again tried to capitalize through the air but in front of goal. The Bergamo side has not been as clinical as they would have liked as he misses from a good position again. No goal in sight as of yet with 45 minutes to play.

Atalanta has been undoubtedly the better side through the first 45 minutes. Roma hasn't done anything of any significance outside of Mile Svillar handling himself and keeping the opposition attack In check. Manu Kone has also been very productive in Midfield and Artem Dovbyk has made decent runs. Somewhat exhausting The defense when he gets forward. Outside of that, it was all the Atalanta It was hard to see that anything was going to change in the next 45 minutes. Roma wasn't going to get out of this with just defending. They needed to attack and create chances for themselves, but frankly, it didn't seem as if they were capable of having the legs to stand on to do that against High high-functioning attack that they were dealing with. The second half ultimately started to feel dead. Very few opportunities occur from both sides. However, fairly early in the second half Roma had a moment. Dybala propped the ball over into space Artem Dovbyk makes the run in front of gold. Getting a touch but it ends up going out as he can't get a good look at it. The Ukrainian was eventually removed as Roma needed to try something else Eldor Shomurodov came in to replace him. In the 66th met, we finally had a genuine shot as Sead Kolasinac blasted it off-track from a distance. Then in the 69th minute, Atalanta finally delivered a kiss of death. Raoul Bellanova delivers a ball into the box coming from the right side Marco Brescianini follows through on the header. It was attempted to be cleared out before being picked up Marten de Roon struck from outside the box it hit Paredes In the shoulder before flying into the top corner as Atalanta took a 1-0 lead. A truly misfortunate situation. That goal does not end up in the back of the net without the deflection. In the 71st minute, Zeki Celik sends a delivery into the box Eldor Shomurodov gets his head on the end of it but it does drag wide. Roma brings on two more Alexis Saelemaekers & Stephan El Shaarawy. In the 76th minute, Roman got themselves a free kick outside the area Alexis Saelemaekers drives the ball inside Gianluca Mancini takes an initial strike with the end of his foot while he's coming to the ground. He sees an opening as he strikes another time however he mismanages the moment as he strikes it in the air. A minute later in the 77th minute, Lazar Samardzic struck one from outside the box coming fairly close but missing in the end. In the 79th minute, Juan Cuadrado tries to squeak another from outside the box but it runs into the defense then shortly after Lazar Samardzic tries one from the left of the box as he follows through on it. Still unable to truly test the goalkeeper. Even though they have been creating chances left and right, as of recently. None of them have ended up on target including the goal. Two more changes would be made by Raneri as Nicola Zalewski & Matias Soulé come on. In the 83rd minute, Marco Brescianini sends a cross into the box Éderson gets his foot on the end of it but once again it trails off the track. In the 85th minute, Nicolò Zaniolo strikes one from close range and Mile Svillar easily saves. Then in the 88th minute, the Serbian goalkeeper would deny a header coming from Berat Djimsiti. In the 89th minute the ball comes in from the left side off the corner Nicolò Zaniolo gets his hat on the end of it. Driving it toward the top right corner an excellently executed header. The problem child Zaniolo delivers his moment against Roma as they wrap up the points. The former Roma Winger took his shirt off as he ran towards the away supporters There seems to be no love lost between him and Roma. It will come to an end with Roma falling short again beaten by Atalanta 2-0 in Rome

Calling this a complete disaster would be short of an understatement. This has been one of the worst seasons Roma have had in 30 years. In the summer. They were incredibly aggressive. They brought in the right sort of talent to take them closer to the Champions League. Say what you want about how bad Roma have been this season. There is not a shortage in terms of talent and ability. In this side. There are several difference-makers That they possess. However, the results haven't come. Roma has gotten rid of two managers already and they haven't got any closer to results. Roma have failed to beat the following teams. Verona, Monza, Cagalari, Empoli, Genoa and Bologna. Roma is headed for their worst campaign in multiple decades. This was supposed to take Roma closer to the Champions League not further away from it. A Champions League race was the objective instead as sickening as it Is to say the sentence Roma right now statistically considering the amount of points they have this season. They're in a relegation battle. Will Roma get relegated? No absolutely not. However, if they don't start getting this thing back on track soon, they're going to finish this season in the bottom half of the table. Roma have not had a season this bad since 1996 when They finished 12th I would not be surprised this season if they didn't even reach that. This is a psychological issue because the poor form doesn't make any sense. When you look at the qualities that Roma have on this side and then the points that they have, it does not make sense. They have three wins this season and they are only two points out of the relegation zone. To make matters worse Atalanta was the better side on the route although they had a serious issue in front of goal in the clinical department. However, they still found a way through a huge deflection that hit a player in the face and ended up in the back of Roma's net and then Zaniolo Even came back to Rome and haunted them again. He is a problem child with a horrendous attitude. Although he did score the winning goal in the conference League final. His behavior during that last year and a half was horrendous through teammates under the bus and overall was truly creating a bigger problem than it was worth. He ended up scoring against Roma this evening. His goal stings that much more considering the dismay that the fan base has for him. There has been no love loss between the two sides despite his recent comments speaking positively about Roma. However, it was just a bunch of flutter with no actual legitimacy to what he spoke. They were positive performances throughout the 90 minutes even though there were not many. However, at this very moment,t I cannot bring myself to mention it because it's not worth it at this moment. This weekend they play against Lecce. They are one of the teams in the relegation zone and I'm afraid until further notice Roma must treat this as being in the relegation zone. Nobody's going to fault and for losing to Napoli and Atalanta But at the same time, three wins so far this season and only 13 points is a major disaster. It couldn't possibly get any worse than this. One of the most talented Roma sides of the last decade, but at the same time being one of the worst. Roma should hang their head in shame until further notice because they continue to truly humiliate those who support them.
