Perhaps, the most fitting end to this cinematic season as arsenal cement the 5th spot; 2 points off of the so desired top4. Of course it hurts to miss out on such a target, especially to your arch rivals but we have to sit and comprehend the kinda season we just played. Youngest squad in the whole league, an injury ridden team yet we didn’t give up, kept on fighting till the end and came so close, is something to be proud of. Regardless, here’s our season in numbers;

Games — 38

Wins — 22

Draws — 3

Losses — 13

Goals for — 61

Goals against — 48

Goal difference — 13

Stat leaders

Top scorer — Saka ( 12 goals)

The young English winger has seriously levelled up his game this season, considering the fact that he missed the penultimate spot kick against Italy in the euros, overcoming the mental block and performing at such a top level is something to be in awe of. 12 goals and 7 assists, the main man up front, we’re in for a treat next season.

Shout-out to Emile Smith Rowe, for his 11 non-pen goals, being the most clinical finisher in the team having overperformed his xG by a good 6.2 score.

Top assister — Lacazette (8 assists)

The Frenchman had quite a poor season in terms of his goalscoring, with a mere 6 goal count, it’s his worst in years. But that didn’t stop him from being one of the most important players in our team, leading the assists charts. Portraying the traits of a modern day striker, he was key in our build-up plays, linking the midfield to the attack with his great holdup ability. Despite his low scoring record, the no.9 still had alot to offer.

Player of the season — Ødegaard

A bit debatable, as one could mention Saka, but my personal choice would be the wizard of Ø. Words are so not enough to describe the importance of this man in our team, the player he is, the tricks up his sleeves, magical player. Skills to pay the bills, the playmaking ability, the work rate — you name it, he has it. Don’t get fooled by his numbers, as this player is much more than that. Proper definition of judging a player by simply watching him play. Numbers will never ever be able to justify or define what this man is. With just 30 odd million paid for him, it’s an absolute steal in modern day market. Still in denial of how did we bag this man for just over 30 mill.

Signing of the season — Ramsdale.

Yep, I said it. Aaron it is, although saying Ødegaard is correct either way but seeing it’s Ramsdale’s debut season here at London, I think this edges it for me. A revolutionary keeper for arsenal, a sort we didn’t have for a long period of time. His ball playing ability and reflexes are top notch and undoubtedly the main aspects of his game. Although his positioning can be questionable at times, but he’s still young and has a long way to improve. The fearless, well-spoken, energetic character he is, an absolute leader at the back.

Most improved player — Martinelli

ANOTHER debatable choice, but I’d go for Martinelli here. Gabi was injured for almost the whole season during 20/21, and suffered minor setbacks in 21/22 as well, seeing he’s still very young and such injuries could easily set such players back, he did very well to revamp himself and comeback stronger. As the saying goes, “ your comeback should be greater than the setback”, martinelli proved it. Electrifying pace, silky smooth dribbling skills and an eye for goal, the Brazilian wonderkid has a bright future ahead of him. In Jürgen Klopp' words, ‘ talent of the century’, Gabi already seemed to have made some fans.

A remarkable stat : top scoring defender — Gabriel (5 goals)

The Brazilian wall has unleashed his goalscoring instincts this season, having scored 5 goals in the league, topping every other centre half in England. Has been a bit shaky at times but one can’t deny the quality this man possesses. Our defence seems to be set for the upcoming 5–7 years.
