EP1 : The Family Man Season 2 Controversy

The Family Man is a series about Srikant Tiwari, a middle class family man who secretly works for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency and also tries hard to protect his family from the impact of his secretive job.
This series is not a complete fictious one. Inspired by real life incidents, the story is made semi-fictious.

Season 2 of this series has touched incidents related to LTTE organisation and its founder Velupillai Prabhakaran. LTTE is a militant organisation based in Srilanka and its single aim was to secure an independent state of Tamil Eelam in the North and East Srilanka in response to the genocide against the Tamil ethnic group over years and various policies of successive Srilankan government which were discriminatory towards the minority Srilankan Tamilians.

Tamil Eelam — proposed independent state

The storyline of the web-series did not touch any background incidents of LTTE and it blindly brands them as terrorists and discredits the year-long struggle in Sri Lanka. It also misportrays the character of Velupillai Prabhakaran (Bhaskaran as per the series).

Vellupillai Prabhakaran

Prabhakaran had lived upto his quote, “I would prefer to die in honour rather than being caught alive by the enemy”, who fought for Tamil Eelam until his last breath and lost his life in the war. The web-series, projects him as the one who escapes to UK when the SriLankan military reached near the place where his team were camped, later quiting his organisation and joining in hands with ISI to kill the PM of India. Also, this incident relates to the assasination of the former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur, Chennai in Tamil Nadu by a female suicide bomber. Already, support for LTTE dropped in India after the incident of Rajiv Gandhi, despite their year long struggle for Tamil Eelam and this series has added fuel to the fire.

The references in the web-series has upset certain sections of Tamil People and it completely slanders the liberalisation struggle of the native people of Tamil Eelam.

The Family Man Season 2 web-series has come in the right time so that we all have got the opportunity to know history of Srilankan Tamils, their plight and also their present situation.

Capturing the history of this struggle from next episode. Till then!
