61 years ago today, the Guggenheim Museum opened its doors. It was founded by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, with exhibitions of some of his most eccentric art collection. Frank Lloyd Wright, who was one of the most famous architects at that time, were commissioned to design the museum. Before this museum, Guggenheim had numerous temporary galleries, such as the Museum of Non-Objective Painting and the Guggenheim Jeune gallery. From the beginning, the museum’s breathtaking spiral design with continuous spaces brought praise, critics, and controversies. Each year, over 1 million art enthusiasts visit the museum to get a sight of the famous spiral. Below are some cool photos from the museum.
