Re: Letter to the Editor “A Change of Heart About Animals”

An enormous amount of appreciation entered into my heart when I read “A Change of Heart About Animals” by Jeremy Rifkin. It’s really a wonderful feeling to know that other people feel the same way about a certain subject that you are passionate about. This article stood out to me in particular because it wasn’t “preachy” which is something that I find in a lot of writings from animal rights activists.

In a way, Rifkin almost made the reader feel as though the facts he stated, should already be known, even prior to the mass amounts of experiments being done to prove it. If our cats and dogs have these “human like” personality traits, what makes any other type of animals different? The study on social behavior, that McDonald’s funded at Purdue University is a prime example of this to be completely contradictory to common belief, the pigs in the study showed that these animals crave affection, and can easily become depressed if left without any interaction.

Animals that we previously considered to be wild and dangerous have now showed that they are extremely alike to us. We are in a time of technology and growth, something that we have used to prove these points, it’s time more people start to think the way Rifkin does.
