Thursday, December 3, 2020 — Dayton, Ohio — Tangram Flex, Inc. (Tangram), a small business headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, announces the U.S. Air Force awarded the company a contract as part of a recent AFWERX Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) solicitation. The effort will support the Air Force’s Agility Prime initiative which is focused on how “flying cars could rewrite how the Air Force and civil society do logistics and transportation.”

Tangram’s Commoditized Confidence Through Software Assurance (CCSA) effort will provide software integration through a set of easy-to-use and commoditized software assurance tools. These tools will be easy-to-run and sit directly within software development pipelines in support of lower cost testing and verification and validation of software components for Agility Prime vehicles.

“We are thrilled to continue supporting the Air Force on their most critical initiatives,” said Ricky Peters, CEO at Tangram Flex. “Through CCSA, our team will continue efforts to commercialize tools for safe, secure, and efficient development and rapid integration of mission-critical capabilities with confidence.”

The Air Force’s Agility Prime effort has received international attention in addition to a congressional funding add earlier this year. Recently, the USAF announced that AFWERX had recommended Tangram’s proposal as one of more than 250 for award included in its X20D Small Business Technology Transfer, or STTR, Open Topic solicitation.

Ohio Partnership

Tangram continues to cultivate and expand partnerships with top-tier researchers across Ohio’s vast academic and research network.

“Businesses from across the Dayton Region have a rich innovation history, especially when it comes to working with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base,” said Jeff Hoagland, President and CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition. “We love to see partnerships between our high tech commercial companies and Ohio’s academic and research base. We look forward to helping them move their work forward.”

Under CCSA, Tangram partnered with Dr. Ray Wang of The Ohio State University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Dr. Feng Qin of The Ohio State University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Dr. Wang and Dr. Qin bring nearly two decades of embedded software research experience focused on real-time systems, wireless sensor networks, cyber-physical systems, and more.

Focus on Commercialization

At Tangram Flex, we’ve taken all our learnings and experience from successful performance on DoD programs performing research, prototyping and services to build a Component Software Integration Platform (CSIP) we call Tangram Pro™. Tangram Pro™ bridges the gap between System Engineering and Software Development with a practical engineering workspace for programs and engineers to use for assured component deployment into mission-critical systems. The CCSA effort will allow our team to further explore opportunities for the seamless integration of additional third-party and open source code analysis and software assurance tools.

Dr. Wang, Dr. Qin, and the team at The Ohio State University have successfully demonstrated the RMCK tool on two popular Unmanned Aerial Vehicle platforms: Ardupilot and PX4. RMCK is the first in-situ model checker designed for uncovering sensor bugs in UAV systems. Under this effort, Dr. Wang, Dr. Qin, and their team endeavors on enhancing the functionalities of RMCK and extending it to other types of UAV and non-UAV platforms.

Tangram Flex simplifies software integration for mission-critical defense systems. Every system is unique, but the mission is clear: the people on the ground need dependable, adaptable equipment to get the job done. At Tangram Flex, we understand the challenges of security, speed, and safety. Our team combines engineering expertise with our Component Software Integration Platform (CSIP), Tangram Pro™, to arm engineers with customized toolkits for meeting mission needs.
