Downtown Fredonia is is filled with quite a few Bars and Restaurants that can appeal to everyone. Each of them is unique, with a different atmosphere to offer. One in particular that I recommend checking out is BJ’s, and not just for it’s drinking purposes. BJ’s opened in 1933, solidifying it as one of the oldest bars in this half of New York State. It is one of those unique dive bars with it’s walls covered in random miscellaneous items, signs, and artwork. The distinctive character of this bar, along with great jams, dark red lights, dartboards, and a kick ass happy hour special featuring 50-cent wings, establishes BJ’s as a true Fredonia staple.

Open five days a week, BJ’s has a food deal each day, but their Saturday wing specials take the cake. As a Buffalo native, it is hard to find wings that can keep up, but I can say with confidence, that these wings hold their own. I went this past weekend with a big group of my friends and spent the afternoon hanging out eating, playing darts and listening to music.

P.S.— You have to be of legal age to go to BJ’s, so once you are, be sure to also make it out the famous “Beach Party” they have every February. They turn the heat up to a solid 85 degrees, covering the floor in sand. I can guarantee there is no where else near that you can dance around in your beach attire in the dead of winter, partying like its the 4th of July, other than Fredonia’s very own BJ’s.
