Sullivan's Charbroil

Shakes, burgers and curly fries. What could be a more satisfying lunch or dinner? If you have not ever been before, you have to check out Sullivan’s Charbroil on East Main street, just slightly past the Paper Factory in Fredonia. This particular place is not open during the winter so it is the ideal place to go now that spring is FINALLY on the rise. Infamously known for their curly fries and great milk shakes, Sullivan's does not disappoint. I personally recommend trying their peanut butter banana shake. If you do get one, be prepared for their abnormally large sizes. If you normally go big or go home with your desserts, keep in mind their small is more like a large and their large might as well be a jumbo, but that's up to you to decide if that is a good or a bad thing.

The service is great, and all of the workers are extremely friendly and are always doing something from taking your order, bringing out your food or very quickly wiping down the tables. This place is a prime example of a small town establishment, that mastered the classic burger and crispy fry combo, with a milkshake to a T. But if none of these foods appeal to you, Sullivan’s still has an extensive menu that has something for everyone with subs, sandwiches, ice cream and much more.

The Big Dipper

While we are already on the topic of good original food places in Fredonia, I think it is crucial to include The Big Dipper into this weeks bucket list. I personally try to live off of a very strict once-a-day ice cream diet, so I might be slightly biased to this place. However, I think that also makes me an expert on extremely good ice cream places. The Big Dipper is technically in Dunkirk, however it is just a quick drive down the road past the University’s entrance located at 950 Central Ave, so you could even walk there on a nice day. The Big Dipper has been around for over 40 years, serving home made ice cream to the greater Western New York area. With a huge selection of hard ice cream flavors from your basic vanilla, to cappuccino, to chocolate chip peanut butter swirl or even an ice cream Sunday, you really can’t go wrong with any of their options. Their milkshakes, smoothies and soft serves are also worthy of a mention, so defiantly check them out as well.

Me and my friend went this past week upon its recent opening, and couldn’t have been more excited. We usually try to go quite a few times throughout the semester and always make sure to try a different flavor each time, but with so much to choose from we never come close to trying all of them. So next time you are in need of a really good ice cream fix for dessert be sure to go to The Big Dipper!
