According to my research and experience, data annotation platforms can be a legit way to earn a consistent income. While I didn’t find success with all the platforms I applied to, there are testimonials on forums like Reddit from others who found success on some of the ones I didn’t. Make sure to conduct your own research on the pros and cons of each platform before applying or taking any assessments.
The website I found the most success with is Remotasks/Outlier (both subsidiaries of Scale AI). I applied to Remotasks in November of 2023. The application included a long test, which I completed within a few days. The test itself was an hour or so and unpaid, so I dragged my feet. About five weeks later, I was assigned a project. By then, I had found other work, and the user interface seemed complicated, so I passed on the project. Occasionally, I received “We miss you” emails from Remotasks, asking if I wanted to return.
