Copywriting is often shrouded in misconceptions that can make it feel like an ambiguous field cloaked in mystery. Sure, it involves words, but it’s so much more than just stringing together sentences.
I often see copywriting requests on LinkedIn and other platforms demonstrating that too many would-be clients are completely clueless. Here’s just one example:
Wanted: Creative Copywriter, full-time position.
Requirements:
- At least 7 years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (journalism, marketing, etc.)
Salary: $35,000 a year
That is insane.

If you expect that writer to work 40 hours a week, their hourly rate is just $16.83. My son makes $17/hr making French fries at a fast-food chain restaurant with no degree and no specialty skills!
