Wandering Star

A “Moonlight Mile” prompted microfiction

Photo of country road leading to starry sky and mountains peeking above dark horizon.

The residue of salt and road dust bespeckled my jeans — a cosmic map — and my eyes inhaled the cool, starry summer night, hopeful my repenting hot feet were walking the last, moonlit mile to you, having wandered in vain under strange skies with false gems to find truth of home.

In response to Friday Fix’s prompt “Moonlight Mile” inspired by the Rolling Stones’ song. I used the phrase “strange skies” and “moon[lit] mile” from the lyrics.
