I Haven’t Published an Article on Medium in Six Weeks and My Income Went Through the Roof
If you want to make a living from writing, focus on the real moneymakers.

Over and over again, you read the advice not to depend on a single source of income. If you make a living writing books alone, build a second leg up on the side with a blog, they say.
At first glance, this advice seems plausible. I followed it, and that’s why I started investing a lot of time and energy here on Medium. For many months, I published a new article every day. I built my own publication and managed to bring in over $100 a month several times.
When Medium was still giving out bonuses, I qualified for them a few times. My best month at Medium was somewhere around three hundred dollars.
But since then, I’ve found that I can’t continue to scale here. More articles didn’t lead to growing income. Many articles do ensure that I earn a small amount each month, even if I do nothing, but even if I go back to publishing daily for an extended period, I barely get close to $100 a month.
With well over 700 articles, I really put in an extreme amount of work here. I was even willing to reduce the publishing frequency of my books to make this work. I thought if I put up with less income on my books for a few months and it allowed me to build a second leg in the medium term, it would have been worth it in the end.
Today I know that Medium doesn’t have what it takes to be a second financial mainstay for me. Instead, Medium has distracted me from my real path of writing books.
When I realized that a few months ago, I stopped investing time in Medium, instead, I went back to writing exclusively on my thrillers and returned to a new release every two months.
As a result, I’ve since more than doubled my monthly earnings on Amazon alone. When I wrote a lot for Medium, my worst month was 2500 euros ( just under $2700). I now expect to earn something like 5400 euros ( $5800) in May. I expect this upward trend to continue as I launch the next novel as early as July. This will bring me back to the level I had before I started Medium.
